Do i wait?
If you need 50-75 gold do you stay at the shop and wait for it or go back to your jungle/lane?
I tend to stay because by the time i get back in lane i have enough for the item needed.. opinions please.

Depends. Typically, you should try to stay in lane until you have enough gold for the item. Then you at the very least force your opponents to think whether going after the tower is worth it.
