Greetings Leaguelings!

First off, keep in mind that the only thing "New" here is the item build, but to help make sense of it, i'd like to quickly go through Runes and Masteries.

Runes:

  • Greater Mark of Magic Penetration +0.87 Per rune (x9)
  • Greater Seal of Scaling Health +1.33 Per level (x9)
  • Greater Glyph of Scaling Cooldown Reduction -0.09 Per level (x9)
  • Greater Quintessence of Ability Power +4.95 Per rune (x3)

Total:

  • +7.8 Magic Penetration
  • +216 Health at level 18
  • -15% Cooldown Reduction at level 18
  • +15 Ability Power

Masteries:

3/4 points in sorcery should do, but if you wish you can take a point out from Devastating Strikes and place it into sorcery for a 4/4 flat 5% CDR.

Item's:

  • Archangel's Staff
  • Rod of Ages
  • Nashor's Tooth
  • Sorcerer's Shoes + Enchant of you choosing
  • Rabadon's Deathcap (Example)
  • Luden's Echo (Example)

The first four items are essential to the build, the last two however, are your choice.

The build order i leave to you for the most part, but i must stress getting Tear of the Goddess followed by Rod of Ages ASAP! Both of these item's take time to stack, so the sooner the better. Nevertheless, i will present a rough build order i "think" should work.

Build Order:

  1. Tears of the Goddess
  2. Boots
  3. Rod of Ages
  4. Sorcerer's Shoes
  5. Stinger
  6. Nasher's Tooth (only if Tears of the Goddess is still uncapped)
  7. Archangel's Staff/Seraph's Embrace
  8. Fill
  9. Fill

The remaining two item's/build order is as i said earlier, your choice.

Now we know Nashor's is worthless with the normal build, but seeing as there is no need for Morellonomicon and Athene's - Rod of Ages + Archangel's Staff provide a large enough mana pool/sustain, they're rendered null. You must now reach the CDR cap via a different item. I suggest the use of Nashor's as it's AP matches Morellonomicon and provides the CDR necessary to reaching the 40% CAP and an Attack speed boost to boot.

Another pro to this build is the extra survivability yielded via extra health (+500 and Active shield) through it's damage and mana + mana sustain item's, add a Zhonya's Hourglass and or Rylai's Crystal Scepter for additional survivability.

A con to this item's build is that i find in my brief experience with it, that it is only strong late game. You may have trouble with it mid-game too. Requires further testing with the build order to ascertain the truth of this though.

This build, regarding the item's particulary, isn't perfect (possibly inferior to the traditional item build) but i thought it may be something worth tinkering with. At the very least have some fun with it. I've tried it a few times and the results have been quite positive thus far. Please give it a try and let me know of your thoughts, opinions, critique etc.

Thanks and take care!

I'll try it out later. Going to bed.

I personally get Athene's/Morello and Nashor's Tooth when I play Azir. The recent changes to AP items should allow Azir to effectively build a lot more items than he used to.

Uhm, it would be a good idea to try out but the thing is that Azir is going to be nerfed next patch. :/

You have to play super slow and super safe with this build because of how weak you will be until you complete your Rod of Ages. Your lane opponent is going to have a field day pushing you under tower and denying you farm. If you can coordinate with the jungler and get them to camp your lane, you might stand a chance. But you really handicap yourself with such a late scaling build path.
