How to Improve Wifi Connection for less lag issues
This is a quick guide for those who play League Of
and other online games using Wifi
Think of Wifi as a river, if it's path is blocked
then it will change it's direction.
BEFORE THE STEPS, GO ON SPEED TEST TO DETERMINE YOUR CURRENT WIFI SPEED
- Try to place the Wifi Router in the middle of the house so every part of the house gets Wifi connectivity. ( I do realize that at times this isn't possible so if you can't then don't worry about it :D )
- Make sure that Router is away from Windows and Walls since Wifi signal has troubles passing through them.
- Wifi uses channels to travel from the router to the receiver
-
You must figure out which channel is best for your Wifi, you must choose the one with least population
-
Use programs like WifiInfoView ( for windows ) and Wifi Analyzer ( for android ), i believe there is a n app for iPhone but you must have a jail broken iPhone for it to work.
-
Once you have figured out you channel, try and see which channels are open and are LEAST populated, also the channels that are next to them since they tend to overlap.
Confused? Here is an example....
Ex: Suppose My Wifi channel is 4 and I see that channel 7 is the LEAST populated then I will examine channel 6 and 8 since they are next to channel 7, if they aren't as much populated then I would choose 7, if they are then I would try to find the best channel that fits the requirements.
- Once you've found out the best channel for your needs, login to your Wifi's online interface. If you do not know how to do so just search on Google. For Example, I use a net gear router so I simply open my Firefox and type www.routerlogin.net and it asks me for an ID and password. The default ID is admin and password is password.
Once in, just change the current channel to the channel you wanted. - Turn off your Laptop, Router, and modem and wait 1-2 minutes.
- Make sure all the wires are plugged in and then turn on the Modem and wait for it to completely load, then do the same with the Router.
- Now you can turn on your laptop and go back to Speed Test to see how my increased speed did you get. (I went from 18 mps to 54 mps and I haven't lagged AT ALL since then)
