I saw someone mention this (don't remember who though) when talking about marks/quints for junglers and I'm curious about it now. How accurate would you say this is?
The reason AS improves clears (especially your first clear) is that the on-hit damage from Hunter's Machete is really significant at first. Doubly so if you then build Madred's or your champion has a 'deal X damage every Y attacks' ability.
AD makes your auto attacks and AD-scaling abilities hit a lot harder against champions early on.
1 crit chance everything else crit dmg for best gank
