ARAM Tips, Tricks, and Discussions

Hey everyone! Just wanted to post a discussion on ARAM stuffs. See if people agree/disagree or maybe just looking for some extra insight. Curious what people think. Here are some random tips:

  1. Before rolling, ask if anybody wants the champ. Just a courtesy thing and sometimes can make team comps a lot more balanced
  2. If your team is all one damage type, but your champ can be played either way, pick the opposite build type. For example, if you're Ezreal on an all physical damage comp, you should probably do AP Ez. If the enemy team builds the resists for the rest of your team, your damage will look brutal in comparison.
  3. This is definitely opinion, but not everyone needs snowball. A long range poke champ with no escapes (like Xerath or Varus) probably shouldn't take snowball. However, if you're Galio or Amumu...please get it.
  4. Another opinion: Don't doubt the power of merc treads. Way too many times people complain about CC and don't get mercs. They just say "it won't help". I don't really care if you're an assassin or an ADC. Sometimes mercs are necessary. That extra 1 second of freedom can turn a fight.
  5. Please consider penetration items as your 3rd or 4th item. Look at the enemy team's builds and adjust accordingly based off their resists.
  6. Aegis is VERY cost efficient against magic damage heavy opponents. It's a really cheap item that will up the survivability of your whole team.
  7. If you are stuck defending the tower while outnumbered, clear the minions. Don't try to damage the champions
  8. Another opinion... but I'd rather see most AD champs take clarity over tear of the goddess (or neither). You sacrifice a lot of early game potential, on say Varus or Jayce, just to be able to spam. Especially when they have long cooldowns. Start brutalizer and watch the enemy team cry. I feel like Tear is just a trap on a lot of champs. Like Blitz or Khazix. You're banking on a late game item in a game mode that doesn't last that long. Archangels is fine. Manamune only on champs like Ezreal or Urgot.

I'll keep adding more if I feel like it. Feel free to add more or tell me why I'm retarded :D We'll try to expand this list

oh and don't forget that vision items exist on this map. if you're against a shaco, teemo, akali, or talon and they're making your life miserable. ask someone to build it. sweeper is pretty good on tanks. twin shadows on support. lightbringer is an iffy item in my opinion. but could turn a fight. or even just take turns grabbing an oracle. its only 250

You gain mana regen based on your max mana pool.

  • Sometimes dying to enemy tower/minions is a good idea. If you're low and have gold to buy something try your best to get executed.

  • On the flip side, sometimes its better to NOT let an enemy die. Keeping the opponent low means they won't be able to impact the next fight + can't get items

I would also point out that after a hard teamfight and objective capture, it is often wiser to back off and regen than to attempt to pressure the next objective while the enemy team revives. Too often they will simply engage on you, win the fight, and then mirror whatever progress you had just made against them. Take advantage of your control of the health pads, and, if you are a tank, try to get a Warmog's as soon as it is convenient.

Sustain is OP on ARAM. Potions are also OP.

stacking banner of commands against a full magic damage team is hilarious. especially when you have a super minion and a gang of bannered minions

there are two teamfights that are pretty important. the initial fight before minions spawn. and the fight at level 6. the team with the most kills before level 6 will almost always hit level 6 first. if you engage at level 5 as they turn 6, you will most likely lose that fight. you can completely skip the initial fight if your team is slow. but ALWAYS pay attention to the level 6 fight
