Garen Vs. Darius Tips

Hi, I've been playing a lot of Garen and I either just completely obliterate the enemy team or just don't make a big enough impact in games. Most top laners I'm pretty comfortable facing. The only top laner I absolutely hate to go against is Darius. I know that the issue is that I've played Darius maybe once during a free week in ARAM so I just don't know all his cooldowns and what his combos and all that are. I understand his bleed and all that and in lane I just try to not let him stack the bleed on me as much as possible. So, what I want to know is what runes should I be using and how to itemize against Darius. More specifically I would like to know strategies to taking on Darius as Garen (play passive under tower, Aggressive @ lvl X etc....).

PS. Tryndamere is annoying too.

i think the easiest way to deal with him, is to bait him into hitting your creeps early on with his q in an attempt to poke at you. he pushes the lane and is forced to overextend. then have your jungler gank him in that position. repeat 1 or 2 tiems until youre stronger than him.

try to freeze the creepwave just outside of your turret range. its a really terrible spot for him, trying to cs. because he repeatedly has to risk walking into turret range to get the caster minions. its a good spot to fight him aswell. repeatedly poke at him with q if he does walk under the turret to get a minion. if he gets a bleed on you, he immediately aggros the turret and cant walk closer.

if you dont get him into this position, save your q for when he hooks you in and slows your movement speed with w. then cleanse it, silence him and walk away.

other than that, i think the best thing early to rush is a phage/cleaver and other sources of health and some ad. he deals a lot of mixed damage, so health sprinkled with a little bit of both resistances is probably your best bet.

dont under any circumstances try to trade with your spin in his creepwave. its going to get you exactly into the opposite position. youre going to end up overextending and making yourself very vulnerable to ganks, off which he can easily snowball. and dont try to trade auto attacks with him at early levels. his bleed will win him that trade.

oh, and the obviously best start against him is cloth armor and 5 health pots (actually thats the best start in most matchups). dont bother with dorans.

Bait his Q, Silence + E him a bit and back off. He is also incredibly easy to gank (Especially when you can Silence him), so get your Jungler.

Darius is stronger than you at direct duels, so dont try to go fully 1v1 against him or else you are going to get dunked. Instead, force small engagements.

This is even more clear at level 6, as his Ultimate gets damage the more stacks he gets on you.

Once you get a lead, however, you should be able to 1v1 him relatively well, but always keep an open eye to his Ultimate. Around level 9 you will begin to out-scale him assuming none of you got an early lead, but do not understimate his damage at any point of the game unless you are massively ahead.

For Runes/Items i just go for the typical Garen stuff. Black Cleaver tends to work fine. If you want to itemize against him, focus on Health since Darius has plenty of ways to bypass armor (E Passive + Passive's Magic Damage + True Damage).

oh, tryndamere is easy to beat.

rush thornmail, get a couple health potions and put a point in w. then build whatever you want. thats literally all. hes not going to be able to trade with you for the next 20 minutes.

and by "rush thornmail" i mean dont bother with anything else first. maybe basic boots.

I hate this matchup as well.

PS. I think Gnar is way more annoying then Tryn.
