Question about Heimerdinger build

People on the game are rude, that usually doesn't get to me, but today someone criticized my Heimerdinger build which got me pretty upset. But then I have to wonder if the guy was right, and maybe I'm not playing right (as if there's only one way to play). So I'm curious what you guys think. I'm sorry if this isn't in the correct board, and I'm really sorry if this is breaking board etiquette, I was just curious about this and couldn't think of a better way to get an answer.

I started out with Rylai's Crystal Scepter because I was laning against LeBlanc and I needed ap and health so she wouldn't jump in and kill me so quickly.

Then I got Morellonomicon for ap and mana regen.

I died a few times because I was really squishy -and I'm admittedly not that great of a player- so I decided to get the Guardian Angel. I thought I needed to boost my armor and magic resist and I thought that if I died under Heim's turrets, it would act almost like Zhonya's Hourglass, giving my turrets time to damage my opponents while the effect was taking place. Is that a reasonable assessment?

Next I got Zhonya's hourglass for the ap and armor. I was building up for a Rabadon's Deathcap, but we won before I could complete the build.

The guy who criticized my build rudely asserted that I should get Morellonomicon first and then Zhonya's, and that if I build any other way that I'm building wrong. Also he claimed that getting Guardian's Angel was a waste of time and a poor build choice. He told me I should max ap and worry about nothing else. Is he right? I understand that I should try and max ap, but I should invest in a defensive item like Guardian's Angel if I'm losing, right? Idk. Any input here is greatly appreciated. Thanks forum.

GA does sound like it has nice synergy with Heimerdinger.

Rylias into Morello is slightly unorthodox but sounds fine tbh. CDR, HP, AP, some slowing, ya

When you are behind a defensive item can be nice. Usually though you can't afford to overdo it, because if you ARE behind you have less resources and if you spend too much on defense you won't usually be relevant enough

Heimer has really good scaling tho, and if enemies disrespect your turrets setups he has very high damage output.

And another thing. About Leblanc. She tappers off if she cannot burst her targets. But the thing is her maximum single target damage output is insanely high (can possibly nuke full tanks if fed), however this requires more of her abilities and for her to be closer in the first place to do (when she has to use her jump or double jump even to reach you that skill itself uses some of her damage; she does damage with the jump on landing on you)

Zhonyas is one of the best items in the game though. Excellent defensive active if your teammates are around, and it provides AP and armor as well. It's almost necessary in every AP carry build everygame.

I probably would have bought the Zhonyas instead of GA. It's pretty uncommon for AP champs to buy GA, but it has its place

in my opinion: theres nothing wong with going full glass cannon ap....just dont get caught and you should be good

however, if your enemy such as a leblanc or rengar keeps blowing you up then you need some defence, its better to get omens if somone like rengar is the problem or banshee's veil if somone like leblanc is a problem. Guardian angel is wayy too expensive for its defensive stats....you use it for its revive passive which really shines in team fights.....

I dont ever get defense first unless im reallly feeding and wayyyy too behind.....its good to get damage first else or you'll just be useless. If you dont do damage as a mage and just get defense then your enemies will ignore you in team fights and go for others first, epsically since you won't even be in front lines and just be chilling at the back with no damage.....itll essentially make it 4v5 ;p

but at the same time you do need some defense if you keep getting blown up because you're still better alive and doing damage than simply dead as soon as someone jumps you. Use your judgement when it comes to builds as you should be building according to your own and your enemies team composition and who's fed and what not. Try not to stick to one build, experiment and it'll help you notice difference of buying specific items. Maintain a few items as core items(still not mandatory and depends on your game) as they'll be very efficient on your champion but it all comes down to your play style at the end. Good luck dawg

The turret master has a lot of flexability, and while I play him occasionally, I cannot say I've mastered him by any means. So take this with a grain of salt.

I like a tanky splitpush heimer cause his teamfight ability can fall off, especially if you have no way to lock them down via an aoe tank or something. Hourglass, rylais/roa, banner o command, and mercs. Your damage isn't half bad, but you're tanky enough not to blow up, and can take turrets lightning fast when splitpushing.

Honestly, you can build any sort of AP with heimer if you have hourglass. It really is core on him for the 'attack me under my turret' baits.
