Trading favorable with the new Fiora?

Iv'e been playing Fiora for a little while now, she's fun and all, but almost anytime I trade I feel like I'm taking way more damage than I need too, or I'm not doing enough damage. Is there some super-duper-fruity-fresh trading secret I just don't know?

My usual poke trade starts with popping a vital using Q -> AA -> E -> AA -> AA, though I vary this depending on the situation.

Any suggestions for better trades?

  1. Watch enemy cooldowns. The moment they burn an ability on a minion, go in. You are an ad champion, you do not need to waste your abilities on csing, but AP and Tank champions are more inclined to do so. Always keep that in mind, especially against more ability dependent champions.

  2. Know what is your opponent's strongest ability. For example, if you play Fiora into a Yasuo top, the biggest threat to you is his Q3 (Tornado). Save your W specifically for the strongest/most dangerous part of the enemy champion's kit.

  3. Know the damage triangle. Tankiness beats burst, burst beats DPS, DPS beats tankiness. If you are fighting a burst carry, you must listen to rules 1 and 2 and maximize your effective health by negating as much enemy burst as possible. If you are fighting a DPS carry, you must find a way to immediately disengage after hitting a vital. Prioritize short engages so their DPS has no chance to ramp up and out-trade you. If you are fighting a Tank or Fighter, you must consider a drawn out fight. If you are allowed to get multiple strikes off on the opponent, you win the trade. If the enemy laner shuts down your combo, you need to know how to bounce back from that.

  4. Similar to part 3, do not be afraid to modify your build to suit the damage triangle. You should not be afraid of affording one defensive item if you need it against a burst carry, you should maximize on flat penetration or flat AD against DPS carries, and you will need % based stats like lifesteal against tanks.

  5. Know who you stat check. This is something I can't help you with since I just don't have that much time on Fiora, but once you play enough games with her, you should have a clear idea in your head which champions Fiora can out-trade and bully naturally and which champions out-trade and bully Fiora.
