Actually silver 4 means your in the top 50% of players

Meaning out of ALL the people that have played league, you're better than half of them.

So yeah it's pretty good :)

I'm still unranked mostly because I feel I'm not ready for it yet so my word probably means little, but I would say that's not bad for first time rankers.

I do believe though that doing provisionals at this point is kind of pointless since all ranks will be reset in a few days anyway though D:

The biggest thing is to not worry about where you placed too much in the beginning. After 100 or so ranked games, you'll be where you truly belong.

To go off on a little tangent, when I finished my placement matches I was in Bronze, but I climbed to Gold in about 2 weeks at the end of last season. Ranked is all about grinding my friend!

I used http://na.op.gg/statistics/tier/ the high end of silver 3 seems to be average, with gold 4 being top 25% and middle of silver 5 being bottom 25%.

i will say that these stats may be off right now but to ranked just starting/being in preseaon so you can expect the number to champs a bit. for the most part silver 4 have been the normal average. with gold 5 being around top 25% and bottom 25% being bronze 1.

Most people are in silver. Silver and bronze together contain 73% of all ranked players (stats from season 4). The average elo is 1200 which is exactly silver 4. When you used to do your ranked placements (they will now change for an even softer reset), your MMR would go closer to the average 1200 elo.

So yeah, you're average along with most people.

Its slightly below average. I would say keep working at it, Gold is generally considered average / slightly above average.

And for an explanation on how it works. There are divisions as follows. Each represented through 5-1. 5 Being low, 1 being highest in the tier. Bronze (Noob land) Silver (starting point for most) Gold (Average) Platinum (Above average) Diamond (Great player, almost at the top) Challenger (Best of the best) / Master (Same as Challenger, but the ones that aren't the absolute best in that tier)

Winning games will give LP, losing games loses LP. When at 100 LP you will be qualifed for a promotion to the next highest level in that tier. (Just win 2 of your next 3 games)

This is just a brief summary of the ranking system. Hope it helps.

Nothing wrong at all with being placed in Silver IV. Nicely done for your first time. Remember...this is preseason...so your rankings are going to be wiped here in a week or so when the actual season starts up again. Don't let that get you down though, and don't let the possibility of a lower ranking next time get to you either...as another poster said...it's a grind. Be diligent...sounds like you started well.

It's decent, kind of subjective though, depends on the player really, there are people who have a good amount of game knowledge and decent mechanics but also people who never ward and don't know how to kite at all, so it's a mix.

I would say if this is your first time playing ranked then it's not bad.

The stats saying that low gold is approximately the average is only including players in ranked which I find is generally more competitive. If I need a break or I'm playing really poorly I go to normals and it just seems slightly easier. This is purely subjective, mind you.

I entered ranked at Bronze 1 and got to silver 2 after about 75-100 games. I don't play often but getting from Bronze 1 to about Silver 3 was really easy. You'll get to where you belong in no time. I wouldn't worry about initial placement.
