Riven vs. Darius match-up discussion
How do I correctly play this match-up as Riven?
How do I correctly play this match-up as Riven?
Get your jungler to gank. Honestly if Darius falls behind in levels he cannot 1v1 Riven. Its not even funny because even 1 gank can set either champ back a lot. Then freeze the lane and watch the your opponent just stand there leaching xp but no gold
I feel like, when he pulls you, if you time your stun and dashes, you could avoid the most of his spin follow-up (either he has to use it immediately after the pull, at short range where it deals less damage, or you can stun him and dash away, out of range.
You will very rarely be able to trade well with him, so barring extenuating circumstances like a friendly gank, play passively. He has no sustain to speak of, mana or otherwise so try to force him to burn skills by pushing against him.
It's tricky and to be completely honest you're playing at a constant disadvantage. Even skilled and no outside interference, the Darius will almost always win lane just because of his kit's strength in laning. After laning though it should pan out much better, so simply try to stay alive and scrape by. See if your jungler would let you snag Wraith/Golems if you're pushed but needy on gold.
Early in the lane, I'm talking lvls 1-2 you can trade with him fairly equally, this is probably the best chance you've got in terms of winning lane without jungle support. Start elixir and all in him, believe me you'll need the stats from elixir and not just dmg or armour. This is my way of dealing with him and by no means is this the only way. This is super risky as it could get you killed at which point you will lose without junga support. But if you do get the kill you should be able to snowball pretty hard as it becomes hard for darius to duel you once your ahead.
As someone said this is a even battle 1 bad mistake or 1 good gank decides who wins
Riven can win but has to be winning hard before 6.
wait for him to spin on minions dash in stun and q out. Rinse and repeat. till he is within half health. Then all in.
From personal experience and as a Riven main. Everyone on this thread is completely wrong. I've played vs Darius many many times at plat elo and I rarely ever lose. You should start E level one and go in for the wave. Predict when he will Q (Get close to bait it) and dash out to dodge or take no damage, besides the bleed, and he will push lane off of that one Q while you taking no damage. And I forgot to mention, starting long sword 4 pots is a great idea, because if you fail your E you have lost nothing (start 4 pots by sitting at max shop range, buy 4th, E to lane).
You can keep baiting his Q with your E over & over and you will then be pushed to tower. Safe farm at tower, and with your turret killing his minions, if you want to get a lead in lane, all in him around level 3-4. Try to time your E with his Q, therefore he takes massive damage from your level 4 Q's plus combo, while all he can do is AA for another 4 seconds while waiting for your CD's. Any Darius picking him into Riven will think they counter. So he will not back off from the trade you are doing. If you all in him with your ignite plus your basic, Q aa Q aa Q aa W aa E aa w/e combo he'll be dead. If he does flash, you can just flash and catch right back up, knowing he is low & your are around 3/4 2/4 HP, and more mobility. After you kill him, he will have a nice amount of gold from pushing the lane with his Q, assuming that he missed nearly no farm because of the heavy damage from it, so he will buy these sets of items.
Two long swords and health pots, trying to out damage you. Knowing you now have the XP lead and gold lead plus you started long sword, you can recall and buy a brutalizer. You'll be six before he hits 5 and you can snowball the lane off of that.
He will come back to lane, going to smarter route(at that time) and buy a chain vest. Yet again, you will have the brutalizer, AD steroid from ult, and the execute. Easily winnable fights from then on.
After you get brutalizer, you will be snowballing him, outfarming, denying his gold and EXP. You can even cheese him at his 2nd tier tower. You'll be fed with a huge item lead. You might get ganked, easy 1v2. Plus, I personally find healthpots the key to winning any lane. It might be the 'pussy' option. But winning > looking like a lil gal. Healthpots are especially strong vs Darius as he will not build any sustain for your combo, but you have healthpots to have his bleeds mean nothing to you.
THAT is how you beat a Darius. There really shouldn't be any trouble with him. Greatly sorry if this is all over the place, I am not the best writer. But in my mind this seemed right, so yeah. GL again Darius. :)
