Easy Top Lane Tips: For beginners.

Most of you know how top lane works. You pick a meaty champ and help your team, or split push and etc. Here are some useful tips that will help you win your lane before you can go into team-fights:

(Sorry if some tips are really, really simple)

1: Don't trade if you don't have as many minions on your side. Especially early game, minions hurt a lot.

2: Spells don't aggro minions, Auto-attacks do. Keep it simple.

Example: Nasus vs. Vladimir, Vladimir Q's, no aggro = good harass. Nasus walks up in between waves to Q Vladimir = bad harass.

3: Take ignite. Obviously Teleport seems to be the "best" top lane summoner spell to get, its really not that useful in Solo-Q because of the lack of coordination. (And you don't know if your bot lanes trolling, or just really bad). But usually your better off taking ignite and have more pressure top lane unless your Nasus.

Sometimes you just face Singed and wish you had that ignite, but nope, you got teleport.

4: Don't last hit dangerously. I know, its very awesome to have 100cs by the 10min mark and boast to your team how good of a farmer you are. Its not hard killing minions, but its damn hard killing somebody that's fed. Play smart, if the enemy is stronger than you early game and pushing you out of the lane, stay around where you can at least gain EXP and ask for ganks and survive the lane until your strong enough to fend for yourselves.

Most of the time (applying to bronze, silver, gold) people get mad because they couldn't kill you even though their winning their trades.

Play smart, even if they're denying you a whole wave of minions. Just wait till the minions get in turret range and last hit.

5: If your a mid-game champ or late-game champ, use the above tip to survive the lane.

6: Lastly, this one sounds easy, but its a challenge. Look at your map as much as you can. You don't have to click on the mini map and do what pro's do. Just take a look every now and then and be mindful of the pings.

7: Be positive and mute everybody. Until you get to Gold. (this one is a preference) :)

Most of these tips are common, but are something I wish someone told me before I push myself in ranks.

I got 3 accounts: 2 in Gold and 1 in Platinum. Hope this helps new players.

as common sense as your tips are, they are very true. however, one thing i should correct you on is the teleport/ignite usage.

you don't take ignite on nasus you don't take teleport(????) on teemo.

nasus isn't designed to be a 'get fed early carry champion' like riven, instead he's more focused on farming. whether you use tp to farm or try to help your team it will end up being much more effective than exh/ign on nasus.

not taking teleport top just because it's solo q is a pretty ignorant thing to say though, many times my lane was won even in silver or gold smurfs where the top laner popped down from a 2v2 which they were about to win.

you should rephrase to "Unless you have good map awareness and understand the mechanics of teleport and importance of not wasting it, don't take it."

also if your low elo like me follow these tips

  1. Don't counterpick, it is better to have a bad matchup with a champion you are comfortable with, then to bring a champ you only played a few times into a ranked game
  2. Avoid late game comps, your team probably won't be able to carry you to late game
