Watch or ward whichever buff your jungler doesn't start at. Collapse on them when they try to steal it for a free kill. Profit.

works every time. If they didn't start machete they'll clear it extremely slowly and take huge damage from the buff and die in pretty much 1 hit. If they started machete they'll at least be driven off (if not killed anyways) and lose lane hard since they burned 400 gold on an item thats useless in lane.

It depends on the champion and situation.

I know that Trundle can solo red or blue buff with a Doran's Blade, Q, and a standard top lane setup without smite. Olaf can do the same with W. Both manage to finish the buff around 2:25 or 2:30, which is usually enough time to run to a bush and recall before the enemy laner shows up.

Mostly just annoyed when I know the enemy top laner is taking about buff at level one and both my mid and top lane just sit at tower, even when we clearly have the buff warded. God knows how many free kills I got from stopping top laners from stealing our buff, so I don't really get why they would turn down the low-risk free gold and ability to set the enemy top laner behind.

Honestly I would only smite Gromp for the buff if I'm playing a tank top with item 3717 , and you don't need to kill it to get the buff (I think?), so the top laner could walk into the enemy jungle, smite it and walk back to lane without actually killing Gromp or spending much time in the jungle

Or play Shaco jungle. Take your blue, camp enemy red (unless they need leash, then camp whatever would be leashless). Profit. Get top laner to pink it when you come back to gank top and send them under tower. Repeat when they revive. Make them mad =P
