I figured Tips and Tricks was a better place for this than Gameplay/Balance. Sorry for re-posting!
I'm still relatively new to League of Legends, and I've enjoyed playing Dr. Mundo a lot. I've probably put in about 20 games with him, but I find I tend to fall off in late game. The problem - as I see it - is that my team typically expects me to tank, but I don't find Mundo has the sustain that most other tank champions have. He just doesn't last like most people expect him to in team fights. I typically build Spirit Visage, Warmog's Armor, and Thornmail. But I still feel the need to hang back and toss cleavers until the other team starts running. THEN I'll hit my ult and chase using W and E to to finish them off after slowing them with my Q. Is this normal or is there a better approach with Mundo late game?
Mundo is one of the strongest late game tanks because his ult grants him almost the equivalent of his health bar and his cleavers deal % HEALTH DMG meaning its going to scale well the entire game. First off, you should prioritize items with health on mundo to maximize the effectiveness of his ult. So build items like randuin's omen and sunfire cape which combine health with another defense stat. Thornmail and warmogs should be secondary items. When you cast your ult on mundo, don't use it until you're below 50% hp. Do not waste your ult for the movement speed. Late game, you want to poke with your Q. When your teammates want to teamfight, charge at the enemies' back line. This means focusing down the carries as this is your role in teamfights. Make sure to turn on your W and E because they give you alot more dmg in teamfights.
