Tips for Late Game with Dr. Mundo?

I figured Tips and Tricks was a better place for this than Gameplay/Balance. Sorry for re-posting!

I'm still relatively new to League of Legends, and I've enjoyed playing Dr. Mundo a lot. I've probably put in about 20 games with him, but I find I tend to fall off in late game. The problem - as I see it - is that my team typically expects me to tank, but I don't find Mundo has the sustain that most other tank champions have. He just doesn't last like most people expect him to in team fights. I typically build Spirit Visage, Warmog's Armor, and Thornmail. But I still feel the need to hang back and toss cleavers until the other team starts running. THEN I'll hit my ult and chase using W and E to to finish them off after slowing them with my Q. Is this normal or is there a better approach with Mundo late game?

Mundo is one of the strongest late game tanks because his ult grants him almost the equivalent of his health bar and his cleavers deal % HEALTH DMG meaning its going to scale well the entire game. First off, you should prioritize items with health on mundo to maximize the effectiveness of his ult. So build items like randuin's omen and sunfire cape which combine health with another defense stat. Thornmail and warmogs should be secondary items. When you cast your ult on mundo, don't use it until you're below 50% hp. Do not waste your ult for the movement speed. Late game, you want to poke with your Q. When your teammates want to teamfight, charge at the enemies' back line. This means focusing down the carries as this is your role in teamfights. Make sure to turn on your W and E because they give you alot more dmg in teamfights.

mundo- i think your fine with him.

i dont play tanks because if your team doesnt do damage, you are a very big waste of time.

generally though your supposed to hit your dot spell and walk around in their team throwing cleavers. just try to draw their fire onto you so your adc/apc can cut them to pieces.

Mundo has the big problem of having no gapclosers. This means you must accept that there are ADCs that you can never catch, such as Vayne (the worst offender), Kalista, and Lucian. However, he does have a very painful poke and is extremely tanky. This means that as long as your ADC has higher range than theirs, you do not actually need to kill their ADC; all you need to do is kill their primary waveclear (usually their mid, who will either have weak long range waveclear or be immobile) and then siege towers with superior ADC range. If their ADC tries to stop your ADC, they'll be forced to eat cleavers or your own ADC's hits to the face.

To be fair, you not having full runes set nor t least 21 masteries really hurt your experience with Mundo.

Mundo is one of the best late game tanks in game. I usually don't go thornmail unless the opposing team are all ADs. Personally believe that Mundo does NOT need to build any damage to hurt. All you need to do is build more and more health.

My end game items are generally Sunfire cape/Wmog/Spirit Visage/Randiums/Banshee and either merc or ninja tabi.

With the above build, your passive will give you enough regen stay alive while the defensive stats allow you to laugh at anything anyone throw at you.
