Runes Help!

Well.. I've recently hit lv30, gotten through all the provisional games and I've decided I'm terribad. I don't know what is good to have for ADC and AP Runes.. or what to even start trying to get. Same for masteries. Since the ranked matches I've gone back to normal to try to master champs again, but I wanna get a start on my runes (I have 9.3k IP). Any advice is welcome :)

Thank you!

In the web app I created at http://www.theworldwithin.org/LoLValues/www/ , you can select a champion and then browse what various runes would be worth according to that champ and its build at both lvl 1 and lvl 18. Only 45 champs have their abilities coded in so far, but the ones you're looking for may very well be there! Basically in judging AP vs something like mpen, it will look at the increase in damage that rune does over the specified combat period (10 seconds default). By default, runes are sorted by their value at lvl 1. I'm glad to answer any questions, and I hope you find this app helpful!

Well, it depends on what champions you use from what I've heard.

But personally on adcs (I mainly use Ashe since she's the only adc I own) I run 9 armor seals, 9 magic resist glyphs, and 9 marks of attack damage with 2 attack speed quints and 1 life steal quint.

And for ap champs I'd go for (I haven't finished my ap rune page yet) 9 health seals, 9 ap glyphs, 9 Magic pen marks and 3 AP quints.

I'm still just an unranked noob so don't take my word as the law. I confidently say though that you should wait for the upcoming rune sale to get whatever you need since runes are so expensive.

You should've waited until you had runes to play ranked

I usually go here http://www.lolpro.com/ and check the champs I have to get a base starting point and then fine tune to what I like from there.

Check various guide sites for champion-specific runes/masteries to be as customized as possible if you have strong favorites.

In general though, use the following: You have two free rune pages, and runes are expensive (so use runes that work on both pages): AD page: flat AD marks, flat armor seals, MR/level glyphs, Attack Speed quints (if you main adc) / Armor quints (if you main top) / MS Quints (if you main jungle or play everything) AP page: magic pen marks, flat armor seals, flat MR glyphs, flat AP quints (if you main AP mid) / MS quints (if you roam from mid, e.g. Ahri, Zed, Kat, etc...) You should also note that there's a 2 for 1 rune page sale (costs 6300 IP per page, so you'll get 2 for 6300IP, at your current amount you probably can't afford to get any, there are typically 1-2 of these sales per year though so watch out for the next one) and 30% off T3 runes, both starting on Jan 22. So WAIT a few days before buying your runes, and buy all you can afford then.

You'll want more rune pages eventually. You're more than welcome to search my profile in game (go to your friends list and click the magnifying glass and search my name) to see my profile, go to the runes page, and view my basic set up for 2 rune pages (go before January 22nd) and soon 4 or 6 rune pages (I'll be adding a lot during the sale, I've saved up over 20K IP).

To go in to more detail on runes: Once you get a few more pages, here is what you'll want to focus on (at least what I'm planning to get):

  1. An ADC page: AD marks, flat armor seals, MR/level or CDR or Mana Regen Glyphs (or a combination), and Attack Speed Quints (or Lifesteal or AD)
  2. An APC vs AD page: MPen marks, flat armor seals, Flat AP or Ap/level or MR/level or CDR or CDR/level or Mana Regen glyphs (or a combination), and flat AP or MS quints
  3. An APC vs AP page: MPen marks, flat health seals OR health per level seals (or combine with some flat armor seals if you expect a strong AD jungler), flat MR glyphs (or AP or CDR or mana regen glyphs or a combination), AP or MS quints
  4. A Tank page: Armor marks, Armor seals or Health seals, MR or MR/level glyphs, Armor Quints

I def recommend Movespeed quints for the slow as balls champs (Zyra, supports, ect) and ones the rely on/are good at at roaming (Katarina, Quinn, ect).

Hey man! Awh yeah! Welcome to the 30 club! You want the ATTK SPEED and ATTK DMG runes to benefit you early game for ADC. As well as the MAGIC PENETRATION and ABILITY POWER to benefit you early as AP. You want the ARMOUR and MAGIC RESIST runes to be scaling per level so you can also use them as TOP runes too if need be.

These are for two rune pages.

ADC/TOP: you can have small variations based on your play style but the main idea is ATTK SPEED [flat quints], ATTK DMG [flat reds], ARMOUR [scaling yellows] and MAGIC RESIST [scaling blues]. MID: you can be versed against an AP MID or an AD MID so this one is tricky. I suggest MAGIC PEN [flat reds], ABILITY POWER [flat quints], ARMOUR [scaling yellows], MAGIC RESIST [scaling blues].

Then: These are GENERAL RUNE PAGES. You can definitely get more specific as the more rune pages you get. An example would be an AP MID vs an AD MID. You get MAGIC PEN, ABILITY POWER, ARMOUR and then the fun part. Glyphs. THREE magic resist runes and the rest flat ABILITY POWER for a stronger early game [instead of all magic resist you'd benefit more from the flat AP blues].
