Hotkeys
I use smartcast and I like smartcast, but sometime I want to use the thing where you can see where the skill shot it going. I want to set it to like shift + q or Shift +w, etc. I get very confused though. Can someone clear things up?

Go down to the very bottom of the Hotkeys menu and check Use Range Indicator When Smartcasting or whatever it's called
You don't even have to do special keybindings for that. Just hold down the key without releasing and you should see a range indicator.
