Advice on Playing Soraka?

Jamener··2 votes·1,209 views

She's had a massive nerf to her HP regen. The Golden Coin is a hell of a lot less effective on her now. So, in light of the recent nerf, how have you all adapted? Do you use Spellthief's now? How do you deal with her troublesome mana problems? What items do you think are core on her?

How do you deal with her troublesome mana problems?

Rush a tear, she can stack it well enough.

And Archangel's Staff/Seraph's Embrace is the cheapest 120(+) AP item in the game.

It works nicely with the Strength of Spirit mastery too. Multiple people have flamed me for building it on her, but honestly Archangel's is the ideal item for her. It gives HP regen via the SoS mastery, it's 2700gold for 120+ap, solves all her mana problems, she can charge it fairly easily, and the shield active is like building HP on her without actually increasing her maximum health.

Thank you for pointing out this amazing synergy! Along with the HP regen runes that Sadistic Lulu suggested down below, this mastery and build path make Soraka's health regeneration (both stat-wise and Q+W interaction-wise) much more tolerable.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've been building it after upgrading the Ancient Coin to the mid tier item and it's solved my mana problems almost completely!

After playing Raka for a while... I got some advice:

  • Get HP regen runes. 3 HP regen quints can make Raka have "normal hp regen" like others.
  • You can continue to get the coin, as it keeps you slightly more sustained in lane. There's no reason for you to poke all the time, since you're just a healer.
  • Don't poke unless you NEED hp in lane, don't waste unnecessary time/mana trying to harass, let your adc do the job. If he doesn't (this happens all the time, lots of adcs you get will probably be shit), then play safe, let them push, and call for jungler assistance.
  • Save your E for disengage, if your adc decides to go in, or someone got caught.
  • Just get your normal support items. However, it would be nice if you get some AP (so you can heal more) and more HP (so you don't die as fast). Any good HP regen items are helpful as well, as I'm still experimenting on what she should really build.

Hope this sorta helps. I'm still practicing on Raka support.

Personally going to thank you because this has helped me immensely. Especially the HP regen runes. It really changes everything.

I've actually started using spellthief on her, and getting mana regen (in the form of catalyst) asap. I later build that into a righteous glory, which provides a BETTER speed boost than the coin active (when chasing at least) and then does an aoe slow similar to randuins, while still having the hp/mana regen at level up.

I've also seen some people get warmogs or visage on her, for the extra regen, and while neither is a particularly fantastic item, I would say both have their uses and places.

Definitely get the sightstone of course, and locket/frozen heart as needed. And then whatever else you like. I just personally, as raka has limited hard cc, prefer to have frost queen AND righteous glory for the added cc, even if it is just slows.

You should kind of avoid raising her maximum health completely because it raises her costs to heal while not raising the health restoration from hitting a Q. She's best build with a full AP without any additional health.

Hmm, that seems interesting. I've seen both work. Personally, I prefer to build like above, but you make a good point that I hadn't considered.

item 3041 item 3089 item 3157 item 3001 item 3165 (Pick one to not have to make room for item 2045 and item 1001 )

item 3040 would not be a bad choice though.

Remember, the goal is to only need to heal allies once and for that to be enough.

Best is to ask your team to upgrade their trinkets so you don't have to buy a Sightstone. Health is horrible on her, it makes her healing cost more while making it harder for her to heal up to full. To me she's a design desaster because of that, Riot FORCES her to support but the item required for every support for warding is a horrible purchase on her.

Personally I think that if you get the Sightstone you shouldn't upgrade it.

Remember some champions have non-meta or funny counterparts

AD Attack speed Soraka is terrifying when you get her full build

My Banana Killer build finishes like so

item 3046 item 3087 item 3072 item 3085 item 3153 item 3006

Yulen Xoshxius1 votes

Would this work on almost all cchampions?

StegosaurusToast1 votes

no it kinda doesn't because Soraka's Attack Speed is higher then most supports and the life steal gives her amazing staying power with her Q returning health.... also RH is ranged only

Still it's amazing fun when you get a Banana double kill from RH Bolts

What boots do you recommend?

Athenes Lulu1 votes

item 3117 for standard cases. item 3047 if you like a little more armor. item 3111 if you want tenacity.

Applies to almost every support as well.
