Any way to improve my map awareness?

I like to play top lane, but whenever I ward, it seems like I do it for no reason because I always end up being ganked anyways. Its my fault because I'm so focused on laning with my opponent that I never focus on my ward. I'm like way too focused on getting the skill shot to hit, but I spend wayyy to much focus on last hitting. Any pro tips on map awareness?

Not a pro tip, but the way I improved my map awareness and warding, Play starcraft 2, you have to look at the mini map all the time or else you WILL lose. The other trick, play support, and over 10 seconds try to go

me my ADC their sup their ADC mini-map me my adc their sup their adc passives/CD's/gold

and repeat that. If you can get yourself doing that over and over, you will eventually check all of your stats constantly.

What i do to improve awareness is play shen and karthus because their ults force you to look at the map constantly and be aware of any fights going on. Shen makes you look at the map alot and be constantly aware of your allies and who needs help. Karthus makes you be aware of all your enemies so you dont miss a chance to use a good ult. You could just do it in custom games against bots if you wanted

i have to agree with Silvonius. When i play karthus even with a full 5 man premade team with my friends in skype and they know i have my ult half the time they dont call for it and i have to be aware to ult

Im only a noob, but Im finding that there are specific times when & when not to push. When in doubt its better the freeze your lane where are not excessively exposed to a gank.

A well placed Pink ward makes all the difference.

One tip I have come across was to train yourself to look at the mini map every time you last hit a creep.

It was from: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/tips-tricks/REhRbnEQ-for-those-who-want-to-improve-on-csing?show=flat

Are you just dropping a single ward in top brush?

Ward more. Ward in bush, ward down river near the first ramp to blue side. A ward in purple side tribush if you can(Or trinket)

The more warning you have the better. Which also brings us to point to, are you paying enough attention to your wards? They wont help if you arent keeping map in your side vision.

just remember to check ur minimap as much as possible, keep it as a constant reminder in your head, it helps me check it more often and eventually becomes a habit, it takes a while to get used to but soon enough youll be doing it without having to remind yourself. usually before I go in to trade with my opponent or push my lane I just give myself a kick in the ass and say look at the minimap and remember to do it every few seconds while im pushing!
