Luxanna Crownguard, Lady of Luminosity

Hello everyone! This is my first post here, but I was wondering if I could have a discussion/get advice about my favorite champion, Luxxi <3 I am in Bronze I right now, I was placed into Silver IV last season but I probably only have about 100 total ranked games. (I started last year) A minute ago I saw someone post here that Bronze players do not build defensively, with the implication that everyone should do so. However, as Lux I build straight glass cannon, other than Zhonya's of course.

Lately my build has pretty much come down to one set that I use for 99% of my games. Runes: 7.8 MPen ; 3.7 MRegen ; 26 AP

Dorans [1 H pot & 1 M pot] -> Athenes -> Ludens/Boots of Lucidity (both) -> Rabadons -> X

X = depending on enemy but 99% of the time Zhonya / Void Staff / or Abyssal

I also like to buy Elixir of Sorcery about once or twice during the game for extra oomph

I never build Mejai, even if I am 10/0, never Archangel, never Lichbane, and almost never build Morello.

I also run Clarity. I would rather give up flash than Clarity. I use my E to illuminate the minions and harass the enemy. Roughly 70-80% of the time I hit >3 minions + Champ with each E. I use the Clarity around level 5 to ensure I have mana for my combo or at least ensure that I can stay in lane while they recall and farm. Believe it or not, Clarity remains useful even after getting Athenes though less and less towards lvl 18.

The main enemy I have trouble against is Yasuo. Even then I can still pull at least a neutral k/d/a and keep up in farm, if I don't beat him outright.

So what do you think? ANY advice is graciously accepted!

Also, Luxxi & Ezzi 4evah!!!!

Ahh my gosh, a Lux post! She was one of the first champs I ever played when I started last year, and even though I play more assassins now, I still love to go and smash out a few games with her now and then. When I build her, I usually start out with a tome, and then later upgrade to an armguard if my lane opponent is AD. If not, I wait until later to start going for zhonya's, and instead go towards a rylai's (when I first built her, I always built high health and ap, but I've deviated from it a bit nowadays). I'll grab a large rod at some point and grab my main dmg items; rabadon's, zhonya's, and maybe an abyssal scepter. If I'm having mana problems early game from not picking up pots, I'll grab a tear and upgrade it to the archangels (since the eventual seraph's shield is a nice life saver.)

My basic built path>>

Tome + Mana pot> armguard/blasting wand > boots/rylai's > 2nd tier boots/ zhonyas > rabadons > archangels staff/abyssal > whatever else I can get to help survivability, whether it be more burst or more health ///

Not getting the Lich Bane I can understand, if you are just building all of that straight up AP. (I looooooove high AP lux, esp back in URF) Back when DFG was a thing, did you run it often on her for the CDR? Or did you grab something else for full CDR at all?

I often will get clarity if someone else on my team has ignite, or if someone else is in dire need of mana like I can be, but not normally. When going against a yas, I normally will stand WAY back and just get my passive off on him, until he's at decently low health and try to combo him. (Oh btw, what is your normal combo??)

Sorry for a bit of a wall post--

I generally build morello instead of athenes. The early power spike is easier to attain (lower build cost). Pretty sure in their current states the mana regen is actually better on morello as well. Also, if I'm ahead I always build rabadon right after morello. Wanna shock someone with damage? Hit them with a full combo after getting rabadon.

Personally I'd say learn how to play without the clarity. Be more selective about when you use your E to farm. I would try not to throw Q until they are low and you're going for a kill. Obviously the other situation would be to avoid a jungle gank. I play with flash and heal..can't tell you how many times heal has saved me or a teammate from the speed boost. As for Yasuo...I feel you. Sometimes playing even and not feeding is the best method. Just remember you guys being "even" will be an advantage for you late with your range.

Lastly, make sure you are using her combo properly. Easiest way to see a real Lux vs a wannabe? Noobs ult for no reason. A real Lux will cast Q, throw E, boom laser, then pop E after the laser hits.

Full build order:

Doran + 2 health pts >> morello & boots >> rabadon >> sorcerers boots **I almost always start with this build. The third item is where you can get creative. My typical path if I'm really snowballing would then be:

Luden >> zhonya >> void staff. I don't like abyssal scepter personally; I don't find myself wanting to be in range. You could always go void staff first, or more likely, zhonyas (due to having problems with some champs like zed, fiora, irelia, or leblanc). Finish up by putting homeguard on boots and getting the sorcerer elixir. Always, always upgrade your trinket at 9!!

Stop taking summoner 13 just manage your mana better summoner 4 is too valuable of an asset combat summoners like summoner 14 summoner 7 summoner 21 can be used more effectively than summoner 13 . Also if you go item 3174 or item 3165 and you are actually using your abilities effectively and managing your mana properly you should take out your Mana Regen seals for Scaling HP (these are the most efficient seals all game around when not laning against AD or Jungling).

Generally your core should be item 3174 or item 3165 (Morello if champions with Heals or Massive Regen are in the game ex:Volibear DrMundo Swain Vladimir etc.) , item 3020 , and item 3089 If you are facing an AD mid you will probably go item 3157 first otherwise start with your mana regen item.

For your last 3 items it should depend on the match up item 3157 is almost always good I also find that item 3285 is nice when enemies are grouped. item 3135 when there is a lot MR being built like a item 3102, item 3065, or item 3190 .

Some honorable mentions item 3001 item 3100 item 3041 item 3026

And hammer this into your mind YOU MUST BUILD item 3191 >> item 3157 first when laning against Zed don't be cute.

Learn to not constantly shove the wave with E and Passive Procs and Last hit with normal autos, learning to do this will conserve mana. I see a lot of low elo players under valuing going back to base they run around with 70% hp and 1k gold in their pockets after they just got and advantage and then the player you just killed comes back and reacquires that advantage. Staying in lane isn't always the best option.

Do you think the recall mastery is worth it?

Not particularly but its a preference thing.

Supposing I replaced Clarity, which spell would you suggest, Heal? Or ignite? I actually really like Exhaust but a lot of people tell me it sucks. I just feel like Ignite doesn't do much dmg, most of the time I ever use ignite it's as an emergency morello.

This should really depend on the match up. Taking summoner 3 /summoner 21 /summoner 7 against assassins or other burst mages that counter you (Veigar ) but mainly take summoner 3 against champs like Yasuo Ahri Zed them assassins and summoner 21 or summoner 7 against the other ones. Essentially take these summoners into unfavorable matchups (But take that summoner 1 for Malzahar )

You should take summoner 14 into favorable match ups as it can do that last bit of damage you may need don't forget it can be cast while CC'd or casting another spell like your ult.

Also, how many wards should I actually buy?

item 2044 s win wars if you have enough gold and the slot get it or 2.

I see many low elo players follow the same path again and again but everything in the game is situational some situations appear more often than others but it is still situational.

Remember the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly expecting a different result. Don't be insane, use your brains.

Also I highly recommend this to all my friends just take the time to read what every champion does learn the CDs the the effects it really helps when you finally get match up'd with that champion to know what to avoid or when you have an opening for poke since they missed an ability with a long CD.

Toss me a msg in game if you'd like to discuss Lux, as I'd rather do it there. I see a few things I can go ahead and point out though now:

And that is you are still itemizing and runing yourself with previous season set ups. Mana regen took a very big nerf, so until late game Mana Regen won't be useful, at which point you should be able to buy into a Mana regen item anyway. Clarity should be for a Support lux that is very spammy, otherwise always Flash and something like exhaust or ignite. Your E costs TONS OF MANA, so try not to use it as a harass mechanism, or if you use it to check bushes don't use it for anything else. Using your E frequently will consume your mana faster then anything else.

Magic Penetration is only useful in two situations : You have alot of Flat AP to begin. And the enemy is actually stacking Magic Resist. If you build MP and have a little amount of AP and they don't have magic resist, you are wasting time, gold, and an item slot. In this situation, buy a 120 item , or 2. And if they buy MR, or as a 5th item, buy MP. Flat Mana increasing items, CDR, and AP are what lux wants. I can discuss more in PM.

As a fellow Lux player I tend to run summoner 4 summoner 14 and only have item 3165 and my runes for mana regen. It means early game you will need to manage your mana better but I don't have too much of a problem even when harassing with E. I do get item 3020 and will most likely have item 3041 as my last bit of CDR.

If you think you build glass cannon... I sometimes dont get my zhonyas so I can have item 3089 item 3285 item 3135 as my last three items. If I want Ludens and Zhonyas I will not get mejais and just deal with not having max CDR. Either that Or I will sell my boots.

Against Yasuo it can be a little tough, but it sounds like you have the right approach, focus on keeping up in farm and not dying, maybe roam a bit to kill his teammates.

The way I play Lux I should not be close enough to effectively use item 3001 , and item 3100 I dont get because I prefer to burst mostly with my abilities and get them pro snipes with my ult. item 3100 = less ult damage most of the time.

I love Lux. When I started, I bought the championship of two character first; She was one of them. So, I'll do my best to help with her.

First tip is to consider getting Flat Armor Seals for a rune page to use against opposing AD Champions. It will bring the Level 1 damage reduction from her base armor up from 15.7% to 21.7%, which is equivalent to her base armor amount at Level 4. It's an idea.

The reason a lot of people are disliking Clarity, is because the benefits it brings are thing that can be itemized for or dealt with in gameplay. At the end of the day, it's your choice. The spells that are usually recommended to bring on Lux in a solo lane are the defensive ones Flash, Barrier, Heal, and Exhaust. The reason Barrier gets recommended is because it is better than Heal against opponents who Ignite during all-ins. Ignite actually isn't a favoured choice on Lux because said people discourage getting that close; the range for ignite is only 600, which is almost half the range of Light Binding and Lucent Singularity.

"I suppose I should build morello vs AD and Athenes vs AP. " Don't actually worry too much about Morello's. The reason why Morello's gets recommended all the time is because of preseason changes to Mana Regen and nerfs to all Chalice items. Riot reverted that misstep nerf to Athene's mana regen but people still think of Morello's as the only choice. The 10% CDR on item 3114 Forbidden Idol is nice, but as finished items, Athene's is better in all categories (damage output, regen, etc.) except for gold cost which is only a 400g difference. It's like all items, you build for the game. It's still a good idea to get Morello's if the passive would be useful and so forth, but Morello's doesn't really offer any specific _advantages _ against an AD laner.

"I'm wondering if I should build Archangels with my spam playstyle..." I wouldn't recommend it. Lux's CDs and mana costs are comparatively high, so she can't stack the passive easily and she also doesn't really benefit from a large mana pool over a refilling one. Also, item 3070 only gives +25% mana regen until it's upgraded to Archangel's Staff which only has +50%, the amount of 2 item 1004.
