Finding a Champion to Main

Baogao··1 votes·4,883 views

I've been trying to find a champion to main but I get bored of most champions. The skills I'm looking for in a champ are:

Has an escape to survive ganks/getting caught out Can carry a team (Not a support or someone that falls off) Spells and some skill shots like Talon (Not like Tryndamere/Yi AA only) Not too squishy Doesn't get boring after hundreds of games or can make plays (LeBlanc/Zed) Isn't mana hungry (Swain)

I know my expectations are high but if I could get an idea of a champion that has most of these attributes I would greatly appreciate it.

GNAR!

I tried Gnar when he first came out but I didn't like how his rage(?) was uncontrollable and I did poorly with him. If you can tell me some tips or a way to correctly manage his rage I might try him out again.

Part of it is just paying attention to the meter and using your big form while you have it to take over the lane if you haven't already. He's not the kind of champ you can play one game with and have a strong grasp of, similar to azir. Trust me, gnar is amazing and versatile, and this comes from someone who's annoyed to hell by the little bastard.

Kyleman1431 votes

Darkened im sorry if my gnar has annoyed you but hes just so fun... And exactly what you said is true he can just take control of the lane he has an escape a slow two stuns when mega and on top of that he has a vayne passive as well he is just an all around champion and yes managing rage is hard but if you play him right going into what you know are teamfights and just poke with boomerang to build rage then go in right when mega is gonna happen and stun everyone it is so much fun and makes the enemy team cry and i recommend doing it!

When I first started, I always looked for the most damage, but try some other roles. Garen doesn't do the most damage, but tanks through your foes damage, being able to kill a lot of champions.I personally like Rengar .

Baogao1 votes

I like Rengar but he has pretty much the same problem as Wukong.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Wukong can be pretty fun if you take him mid lane. He doesn't fair that well against some bruisers and tanks, but he's great against squishy opponents and for roaming with his ultimate.

Jayce is highly versatile. Ranged, Melee, slows, High damage, his gate boosts movement speed, he has a slow, but uses mana. normally people get Archangels staff to help, but you always need to conserve mana, and not waste it. I start, unlike almost every other jayce (I'm not a very good jayce) with item 3508 Essence Reaver, so I get AD and help restore mana with basic attacks, so i don't have to start with just mana or just AD, howevver, it does slow my final build down somewhat. normally in games you dont get full builds though, so it's all preference.

Give Wukong a shot. He's been my most played champ for both Season 3 and 4, and I already have most of my Season 5 games on him. I primarily jungle with him, but I'm also comfortable playing him mid and top. With a little armor penetration Cyclone can turn teamfights on its own, and you'll be uncatchable once you master Decoy jukes. Between Q and E you can take down towers extremely fast, and a lane Wukong with Tiamat is a huge threat if you leave him alone to push. I personally find him fun and whenever I play him it feels like I'm seeing an old friend. He was one of the first 6300 champs I ever bought (back when he was that much) and I've never not enjoyed playing him.

Baogao1 votes

I find that Wukong doesn't really have a reliable escape because every time I play vs one I always carry a pink and can catch the monkey during team fights. Other than that I think he's a good pick overall.

Would help if you tell what your main role is so could suggest a champ that goes with that role

Baogao1 votes

I actually don't have a main role because I can usually fill and can do well with any lane but with my luck I'm usually one of the last 3 picks. I only play Draven ADC so my preferred roles would be mid and top.

You can try TF. His playstyle can be exciting due to his ult ganks.

Baogao1 votes

TF has no escape except for his stun card and he's squishy if he gets caught out trying to roam which I do often when I play mid.

Me being a Skarner main, I may be baised... But I've had more fun and success with Skarner than anyone. Try him out. :D

Baogao1 votes

I actually haven't bought Skarner because I think he wouldn't dish out as much damage as I would like and that's one of the main things I look to be able to carry a team.

I actually haven't bought Skarner because I think he wouldn't dish out as much damage as I would like and that's one of the main things I look to be able to carry a team.

That's actually what I like about Skarner. Since he is a low-range champion, building as many tank items as possible provides you with the resistance to plow into team fights and make plays while still being able to get out if you need to.

You can also go the alternate route and build high damage. That's fun as well, attack speed works really well with the cooldown on his Q, and his passive allows you to duel most champions...

Anyway, he's a lot of fun. I wouldn't rule out champions just because you think you might not like them. Even if they don't go with your play style (say they have high mobility but are squishy and can pump out massive damage), I would play anyone you can. I suggest not "maining" any champion until you've played through the majority of them and found who you enjoy. Who knows, maybe you'll find a champion that suits you that you never even thought of. (: Good luck.

Skarner has the highest base damage in the game. His attack speed increases the more he lands his Q. His Q is an AOE HYBRID damage attack with a sub-2 second cooldown depending on attack speed. Trust me, the damage Skarner puts out is insane, and with item 3078 it's downright broken.

The real problem with him was that he would get kited to infinity, especially early game. Nothing anitem 3025 oritem 3022 can't fix though.

But unfortunately he is very reliant on his abilities, more so than most champs, so the mana regen nerfs have crippled him, and despite the crazy # of items that synergize well with Skarner, nothing with mana regen really fits well into his build.

Skarner is a sitting duck without mana, and I stopped playing him because it's a situation I find myself in all to often lately. Unfortunate.

It's hard to escape a lot of the time. Try to be more wary of your surroundings with wards instead, and make sure to get boots, maybe with the alacrity enchantment, and if you really want, movement speed mastery to give you +1.5% movement speed.

Aratez Treaty1 votes

As I said, try to be wary so you don't have to escape, and boost your movement speed. Kalista has good kiting and damage skills.

Baogao1 votes

Kalista is reliant on supports which there aren't a lot of in solo queue, I only ADC when someone other than last pick chooses support.

Many resourceless champions fit your bill.

Lee Sin, Gnar.

I would recommend Rengar, to be honest. Nidalee fits what you're looking for. Sion. Vi.

Baogao1 votes

I'm not the best Lee-Sin player because I'm more of a plan out what I'm going to do rather player than a situational player.

I played Sion just recently but I know I will get bored of his playstyle after a few games.

Haven't bought Vi but I just don't like her; not quite sure why.

I guess I will try out Gnar and Rengar then.

BluePolarizer1 votes

lol there is no champ in the game that does carry level damage, has escapes, isn't squishy, doesn't need mana and has skillshots, while not being something that you already said you didn't like.

DorkunedAuras1 votes

Basically, he's asking for a champion that does fking everything with no weaknesses at all. The game would turn into "League of [Insert champion name here]". It would be incredibly unbalanced, and ruin the whole game.

ThCakeIsALie1 votes

What I did was create a general rune page for every lane: top, mid, bot adc, bot support, jungle. Then I wrote on a word doc three champs, per lane, I do well w/ that I want to main. Third, I practice w/ only those champs. Even if you perform badly, over time you'll still become really good w/ those specific champs rather than shooting all over the place.

For example, my three main mid laners are: Katarina, Malzahar, Galio. I'm pretty much pro w/ Kat and Malz now, but Galio I need more practice. This gives me the opportunity to work whatever mid for any occasion in the offset the opponents ban Kat, pick Malz, and Galio is left wide open. In the rare instance all three are picked or banned, I simply ask to go to another lane which I have three picks to choose from. This cuts down on inconsistent losses and my win rate has gone up ever since I started this.

Why not just play nidalee?

Grimspeake1 votes

Viktor doesnt need escapes and if someone jumps on him its easy to throw your stun under you and run away as your smiting them with your death ray

Gunpoint1 votes

If you want to win alot, don't main a champion... unless it's Lee Win.

aaronconlin1 votes

Azir Riven Gnar Rengar Renekton Khazix Nidalee

Based on your criteria I'm guessing you mainly play mid/top lane?

Jalkan1 votes

Pfft, Skarner destroys teams. All he needs is one item 3025 or item 3078 and he can build full tank while still dishing out damage to their carries and tanks. But if you don't like him, then I suggest Trundle .

Only Play Darius1 votes

Skarner is my main lol. Build him right and he becomes an unkillable tank and still does an insane amount of damage. Most frequent item 3057 procs in the game along with highest base damage in the game? OP AS FU*K. (Seriously, he procs item 3057 faster than the item's cooldown)

Then they nerfed mana regen and now he's perpetually out of mana unless you build AP Skarner, but that really defeats the purpose of playing Skarner since his main strength is that he can be built to almost any situation, be it Full tank, AD tank, AP tank, Hybrid carry, DPS carry etc.

I don't play him much anymore because I have lost too many fights for being out of mana, real shame, I find him one of the most interesting champs in the league.

Gnar fits all of ur descriptions, and so does riven. If you want to carry easy mode though, just learn jax.

a champ more then likely don't have everything. if u wanna set up plays its like a cc champ. usualy cc champs lack atk speed or burst dmg and tend to be squishy. if u want a asasin champ they usualy lack cc. if u want a sustain champ they usually lack burst dmgm at most continues dmg or min cc.

Raxicor1 votes

I would suggest trying Riven. You need an early kill to snowball but you sound like you want an aggressive pick anyway.

Only Play Darius1 votes

You really want to get good? Don't main a champ. Just spend time getting good with a champ for a few days, then move on to another.

Seeing all the different playstyles really improves your ability in the game.

Ezreal, so much fun to use and his e is basically a free flash and his poke is insanely good.
