Question about Diana's Build

Hey everyone..... I'm pretty new to League and I've been playing for about a month and just hit level 30 (but for some reason the boards say I'm 20?) ........

I've been trying as many champions as possible and I just got Diana.... I have to say, she's by far my favorite so far. I love everything about her, from her playstyle, her kit, to her versatility of itemization. Now that brings me to my question....

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I really don't think Lich Bane is a total necessity on Diana.... I was playing a game with her and building zhonya's and abyssal scepter first and my team started flaming me hard saying things like LOL WHERE'S YOUR LICH BANE NOOB?! YOURE AN ASSASSIN YOU NEED LICH BANE AND NASHORS TOOTH YOU SUCK, and things like that. I can see why Lich bane is a great item on champions like fizz, and I can even see why it would be good on Diana.... But only as a late item after zhonyas and abyssal. I just think those complement her better since shes not very AA reliant. My question for you guys is, is Lich Bane really necessary on her? And what do you veteran Diana players like to build on her? Thanks everyone!!!

Diana's passive allow her auto attacks to add quite a bit of damage, not to mention her ultimate counts towards her passive. Using her passive well can add a significant amount of damage she can dish out which is why people like to build nashors.

While lich bane and nashors aren't required on diana, people tend to pick up one, or the other, or both because of how good her passive amplified auto attacks are (meaning you should auto attack, which will proc both of those items). My personal preference is nashors if I'm jungling or going a tankier build, and lich bane if I'm going full AP (which is most of the time). Item order is really up to you, and depends on how the game is going. Zhonyas and or abysal are perfectly fine for a first pick up depending on the match up / how laning is going. If people give you flack that isn't constructive, just ignore them.

As a tip for diana in general, as you don't feel she is auto attack reliant, if you aren't utilizing her passive in a meaningful way during laning (especially against other melee opponents), you should.

Thanks dude! That was a really good answer. I just got her two days ago so I'm still learning to utilize the passive. I've been rushing zhonyas or abyssal depending on the matchup (I play her mid) ....... and although its not my primary item, I've still gotten loch bane every game as my third item because of her passive.... which like I said I'm still learning how to utilize to full potential. I've been watching some challenger players play her and against meelee opponents it seems that a strategy they use is to pop the shield and harass with auto attacks and her passive and it does crazy damage.

Truth be told i am loathing the fact that she is getting more popular however i feel inclined to help a new player out. The thing about lich bane is the fact that it requires an ability to be used to proc it's effect. So the lower your cool downs the more efficient it is. Lunar rush can refresh and at 40% cdr crescent strike has a cool down of 2.4 seconds. Which means you can proc lich bane a lot without losing your ult. Lunar rush at 40% cdr goes down to a 9 sec cool down when not refreshed which is still decent. It's very effective on her.

Nashors tooth is also very good. Her passive has an AP ratio of .8 so if you get Nashors and have the mastery that deals 5% of your ap on basic attack you can get a 1.0 ratio when you proc your passive since both Nashors and the mastery are separate from each other it adds instead of multiplies which in this case you are getting more from it. Nashors is good to pick up when you are jungling since it allows you to clear faster and she scales hard off of cdr. Sometimes you cannot pick up death cap etc. so this helps make up for it.

Diana is very versatile. You can build her as a burst assassin, a fighter ( balance of tank items and AP items), a bruiser( Imo more tanky items and a only a few damage items 1 or 2). Unknown to most their are a lot of little nuances, combos and tricks to learn that can make a big difference so she has a deceivingly high skill cap.

Once again thanks a lot! I haven't tried her in the jungle yet since I'm using her mostly in the mid lane as an AP burst assassin...... is she really getting popular? It might be because I'mnew and hhaven't played ranked games but I literally have yet to play with or against a Diana in the 6 weeks I've been playing, and I play a few games per day. I'm actually surprised that I don't see more of her because her kit is just fantastic. I prefer her so much over other assassins like Katharina (who I very much loathe)... like I said I do build much bane as my second or third item but since I use her in the mid lane I haven't built nashors yet. Thanks for the great responses guys!
