General Feedback on the company's philosophy, from a newcomer's POV
I'm playing TFT since July and I never played LoL before (not my genre), so I'm not used to read things like "Riot is Riot, get used", but I understand it's a common answer to many problems. From a newcomer (and game designer) point of view, I felt some points that I think are great or disastrous and I just wanted to share them. By default, I want to remind that's a game still in development, so I'm not focusing on things to add; they'll eventually be implemented.
What's Good
- Reading everywhere, I see people complaining on and on, but guys you're not paying a single cent for this game. The majority of games with the same quality are to be bought, and most of them are not cheap.
- The game is constantly patched, and this means developers are listening to the community and working on the bugs. From a gamer's perspective, this means instead that the metagame is periodically refreshed, and compared to the games I usually play, that's a big big pro.
What's Bad
- I feel a great lack of Transparency about the ranking system, that leads player to plot theories and generally think bad about the company. I personally see no specific reason to omit the details about how the ranking works, unless there IS something to hide. Players would complain a lot less if they know exactly what's at stake. I personally feel frustrated after I spent half an hour trying to beat eight players, finishing fourth and losing points. Or finishing first and gaining 33PL compared to a -60PL for an eight place. This is obviously non-linear and I think players will like to know the reasons behind that, even "we want this game to be difficult to climb" would be a valid argument.
About the last point, I would suggest (other than explaining the ranking philosophy) to try addressing to more player prophiles than the Killers alone. As of now, the game offers a hard-to-climb ladder and some minor rewards (you should know how enthusiastic are your players about icons and emotes), and I think it would be way more popular if it were more "noob-friendly". I think it's a waste if you only focus on satisfying killer players (like I am, and I'm pretty satisfied) and offer quite nothing to achievers and explorers, who generally get bored faster :>
Best regards, this game is a bomb
