A Discussion and Some Constrictive Criticism
So I recently started playing TFT after it came to live servers (before that I mostly watched Scarra stream it on twitch while on the PBE).
I've taken a few notes from the 20-50 games I've played I'd like to see peoples feedback about wether I'm wrong or right about these things as well as a few points I think could improve fairness and gameplay.
Here they are (! = I might be wrong or right, !! = I think this should be added/changed): 1 !! Disable auto-combine - Maybe a toggle in the settings to allow our units to not auto-combine (on by default for new players). I have two reason for this:
- 1.1 Firstly, of course the obvious reason is it's much harder to intentionally lose streak. You can either buy bad units that won't combine and throw them onto the board (taking up a spot on the board and in your bench for the unit you swapped it out with), or just not buy units making you miss potentially 2 star or 3 star units for later in the game.
- 1.2 Secondly, item combining. The "carousel" is a nice feature allowing players that are behind to catch up or helping players get that item they really need... BUT, imagine this, you need that spatula to give to your B.F. Sword rek'sai and change her into an assassin... but it's on a zed and you already have 1 zed on your bench and 1 on your board. So instead of getting the bonus you want you now have to get a unit or item from the carousel that you don't really need/want or you can have an zed with an item he doesn't need... and the only way to get the item back is selling your, now, 2-star zed.
- 1.3 However, I realize that without the ability to overfill your board and the number of spaces you have on the bench often makes you run out of space even with the auto-combining active so maybe there's a smart way to disable auto-combine without hurting the player. TO CLARIFY, I DO NOT want over-filling to be added, making the 'best' players the ones that can put units into the board and refresh the fastest. This is a bad gameplay design imo because it makes the game rely too much on APM.
- (1.4 Side Note: another option to maybe help/allow intentional lose streaking is to add a toggle to the settings to turn off auto-filling the board; allowing a player to put less than the max number of units out intentionally increasing their chances of losing)
2 ! Speed up the revive time of Guardian Angel
There's usually 2 conditions that the GA goes off
- 2.1 They die late, making them die almost instantly if they are out-numbered in any way and they aren't multiple levels/items stronger than the remaining
- 2.2 They die early, in this case usually by the time they revive most of your team will be dead resulting in another instant death; of the amount of time it took them to revive meant you were out-numbered for so long the revive won't matter.
3 ! Is it just me or does the max level knight buff seem bad?
- 3.1 Sure you get more defense but 1. aside from Darius, Garen, and Mord. the other 3 knights are 3,4, and 5 cost making it kind of bad to try and throw money into a 2-star fourth knight... and you can just forget about going for 6 knights unless you have 5 gold generators and pirates 2. Sure you have a bunch of defense on a few of your units now but you're probably still just going to die to magic damage anyway.
- 3.2 Maybe instead of doubling the buff make it like this: (2) 20 damage blocked from basic attacks (4) 20 damage blocked from basic attacks and abilities (6) 40 damage blocked from basic attacks an abilities
4 ! Guardian buff and leo's price-to-ultimate ratio... is it good/bad?
**5 !! Sol OP pls nerf
**
- 5.1 Lol, but seriously, he's probably the only unit I'll buy even if he has zero synergy with my team and even if I don't plan on playing him, just so another player doesn't get him.
- 5.2 Since a level 2 sol can do a pretty good job at 1 to 3 ult-ing your team maybe reduce his ultimate damage (or his ultimate damage scaling) amount by 5-10%
6 !! Double Spear of Shojin on Pyke specifically I really enjoy the item stacking and I don't think it should be removed, that being said, 2 of them on pyke is un-fun to play against and/or unfair. Once he gets the first ult off your entire team is basically permanently stunned because 1. He can usually cover the entire distance of your team 2. There's only about a one/half second window of time that your team isn't stunned between his ults. Two of them on all the other champions hasn't been a problem in my experience (sure your going to be permanently stunned if it's on a glacial team... but I don't think anyone expects that to not happened against a glacial team wether they have the items or not XD
7 ! Maybe add some way of using the spatula (maybe 3 spatulas) to remove all items from a single champion This would also some-what, though not completely, solve the issue of auto-combining mentioned in point 1.2
8 !! Lux as a noble-elementalist Unless I'm wrong... there's a total of ONE synergy in the noble category (Garen and kayle as knights) so having another noble would be nice (because as-is it's pretty hard, edging on impossible, to get a max noble buff) an if she was an elementalist (maybe a 2/3-cost) she would help a lot in getting the elemental because most of the elementalists are rather expensive. (I'm guessing I'm just reiterating what the devs are already thinking on this one)
9 !! Spatula shouldn't be able to drop in the first set of minion rounds
So I got a spatula in the second round a a B.F. Sword in the 3rd round (or the carousel, I can't remember). So I had an assassin darius the entire game and basically stomped everyone for the rest of the game. Turns out, an aoe champion in the backline is really strong. I'm pretty sure I only lost 3 times the entire game... so maybe I just got really lucky, but still, giving the ability to 'break' the game by turn 3/4 is way too strong.
10 !! The time at the start of the game (the first carousel before the minions) needs to be, at minimum, doubled
11 !! Pirates need a strength increase (excluding gangplank)
Even with 3 pirates and on a losing streak you'll still be behind everyone else with almost every composition you can have. Maybe increase Graves health so he doesn't die faster than a sorcerer.
Welp, that's all the notes I've taken so far. Feel free to tell me if I'm right/wrong on things or give alternative suggestions to my points. As with most players I'm still new to the game and learning. I also have a bias based on my own experiences.
