The complete guide to winning TFT by intentionally throwing matches to influence draft picks.
Hi there. I just want to discuss this issue/strategy that I have found with the current structure of TFT. The overall strategy is as follows:
Your team composition is a Void/Assassin/Ninja build.
Your main characters are:
Your main strategy is:** intentionally throw every match in the first two rounds of the game. This is going to give you a +2 gold modifier per turn due to your losing streak. Additionally, if you are in the low end of the ladder you will always get the first pick in the drafts, which gives you access to the champion/item combo of your choice.**
Items :
- This item can be exploited by placing it on a level 1 unit you know will die at the start of the match. By having that unit die, you will be able to heal up a lot of the early enemy ability damage. The reason I think this item is so strong is that if you can't end up getting cards for a character that fits in your composition, you can throw this item on that character and still have him be useful.
- Makes your main assassin tanky and gives him AOE from the back line that will DPS the enemy team.
- Punishes enemy team for using their own abilities. This is especially good against enemy comps that have level 3-5 heroes that are only 1 star as those characters have low HP pools.
- Place this on your assassin as it will make him tanky and will give the team a massive early HP advantage.
Note all of these items have a "global" effect. I think the items with effects that influence the entire game board are much stronger than items that simply help 1 single character do damage.
Strategy:
-
The initial draft: Focus on items instead of characters. Make sure to get 1 of the items that builds into one of the 4 above. The items will end up winning you the game - not the characters. The best way to intentionally lose is to sell your starting character as this will unequip the item he has. Then, just use rank 1 units with low HP every turn and make sure to not equip your items.
-
The first round of matches: Win the first 3 rounds against minions, but then proceed to intentionally lose every match until you get to the second champion draft. By losing games you will be lower in the overall ranking of players. This will allow you to have the first pick in the next round of drafts and it will give you a losing streak modifier of +1 gold. Also, make sure to re-roll you hand as infrequently as possible as we want to build up gold to take advantage of the interest as soon as possible.
-
The second draft: Focus on an item. A good first item is the Hydra because it deals damage and makes your character tanky. Because we are using Assasin/Void themes, we will get plenty of damage from those modifiers, so there is no reason to get any hard-core DPS items.
-
The second round of matches: Continue to lose every match. However, begin re-rolling your hand more frequently this time. You want to start to get together the cards you need to level up your characters. I think keeping your overall gold above 30 is a good idea as you will be generating +3 interest per turn and +2 gold due to your losing streak modifier.
-
The Third Draft: Again - focus on an item. Ideal you want an item on an expensive character that you can sell.
-
Round Three - At this point, you will likely have between 5 and 20 points of HP. This does not matter. The goal of this strategy is to trade your life points for strategic late game champions and items. This is when you start to put your team together. You want to start re-rolliing your hand, You should easily be able to get your characters leveled up because most of them cost 2 or lower, so they are quite common and easy to afford. Also - because we have been manipulating the draft order we should have at least 2 very powerful items that we can throw on our main assassin. I highly recommend putting the items on Kha because he is the easiest to upgrade to 3 stars.
-
From this point on you want to be on the hunt for Cho'Gath cards to get him to level 2. As a general rule - only try to level rank-1 [white cards] and rank-2 [green cards] to the three star level. The investment in trying to get a purple card to 3-star is not worth it as your 1 and 2 rank cards will be able to win the games with the items you have built over the game.
I have used this strategy several times today and I have come in first almost every single time. The lowest I won with was 7 points of HP. I am hoping that Riot addresses the following issues:
- Since people can intentionally lose matches to influence draft picks... maybe change that.
- Void seems to be really strong because it allows DPS champions to ignore a lot of armor. This means a void comp can build defensive/hp items and still deal tremendous damage to the enemy team. This seems really unbalanced and exploitable.
- Other themed bonuses seem to only affect 1 character or a few characters - maybe buff those bonuses instead of nerfing void?
I hope this information was helpful and will help raise some awareness with respect to some of the more unbalanced aspects of the game.
