Mr. ManWolfAxeBoss...an idea about Ranked Dominion

I know that you've stated that there is not enough people to do a Ranked Solo Queue/5s for Dominion, and I understand that completely. If the numbers don't justify the costs, then it just can't be done. Fair enough.

But I had a though yesterday I wanted to bring up and get your feedback on. Let's say that Riot released a Ranked Solo Queue or Ranked 5s for Dominion. The catch is, this mode was only available two weekends a month. This would give Dominion players the ability to play Ranked, but having it restrained so that it's not always taking up server space. And this would also allow Riot to find out if a Ranked queue would actually help Dominion's popularity or not, as you can judge if more people play Dominion when Ranked is available and if the potential of Ranked two weekends a month makes some players want to play more norms to prepare for those weekends.

What do you think?

Definitely solo. Lack of solo is the reason ranked TT never took off. It's way too hard to organize a full team.

2 ideas along these lines for how to do it:

1: Between ranked SR seasons, that queue shuts down and is replaced with ranked Dominion queue. Unique Dominion-themed ranked rewards are available for this mini-season. This would get more people to try the mode who don't normally, which is really the main way to increase interest in the mode.

Make sure to accompany this with official Dominion tournaments streamed alongside LCS games. Raising awareness, interest, and learning the complexities of the map is important. SR players DO NOT play well when transitioning. There is a learning curve that could be eased a lot by watching high level play, but that is not easily available right now, especially after Riot dedicated 3 years worth of resources to trying to drive away the entire Dominion community.

2: Open it for small windows over the full season, 1 day a week, and possibly a couple limited time windows. This would be more of just concentrating the interested players into queuing at the same time, but would both offer a way to bring interested players together and let them see the results of their work, as well as measuring how much interest there is BEFORE doing a big map promotion like #1.

Hold this off tho. Release it alongside a VU and relaunch. Rework certain elements (remove score entirely, rework stormshields into a singular contested objective, rework quests) to smooth out the gameplay.

Merge the normals queues into one blind draft queue.

Maybe change banning into a "blind ban" phase for both speed and coverage. Both teams select a set of 5 bans (1 per player) blind of the other team. Once both teams are decided, the bans merge into a single list of 5-10 banned champions, then picks proceed as normal (blind or draft)

Personally, the Dominion map is outdated and feels out of place in the League of Legends. The Howling Abyss fits the lore, as does the Twisted Treeline. Summoner's Rift is iconic. But playing from Season 2, Dominion just never hit it off with me to be a part of League of Legends. Dominion needs a rework. My idea was to incorporate an Ionian feel, to further emphasize the struggle for balance (control points), with temples, etc. Regardless of my personal take on a theme/visual update, Dominion in it of itself is outdated. The center crystals don't really serve a game-breaking purpose, health/speed positioning seems weird, and in the many games of Dominion I have actually played, teams never fight as teams, instead as pairs of twos and threes against other pairs of twos and threes. The problem isn't ranked, the problem is Dominion itself. As a fairly active player, I would be happy to jump into a Howling Abyss game, but Dominion never feels enjoyable. The Crystal Scar forces "iconic names" onto the players, by labeling each point the "Claw", etc, instead of having truly memorable spots. Surprisingly, ranked TT is still a thing, and I personally think keeping ranked TT as a purely ranked team based queue is great. Organizing a full team for SR is near impossible, but when I'm with my friends and I want to queue up competitively, assembly two other members is extremely easy. TT, however, requires a lot of communication and teamwork, so having a solo queue would prove devastating if just one player disconnected or trolled (this being a direct response to @Kholdstare13). I definitely agree with his point that a visual upgrade or rework is needed.
