I just got into a team builder and was selecting my champ and rdy to start looking when I find that "Group must have at least one friend'. Why do I all of a sudden need one friend now to play a game of team builder? I've been able to look for 4 other roles since, like, ......4 hours ago but now I need a friend to join? Why?
You only need a buddy when you pick "Build a Team" instead of "Join a Team"
I know this feature is stupid
I believe the reason was that a lot of top and mid laners would build their own team rather than join another team, simply because it was typically faster for them. This would lead to the creation of many teams and there would be fewer solo players available to fill slots.
Actually this is not a recent thing at all. This was a patch some time ago. So you must be mistaken. It was to reduce queue times so that you had friends sitting your lobby rather than just one person starting lots of rooms, which in turn means that there are more rooms for the LFG players to fill, thus scatter and never actually form a whole group. Basically, just a big musical-chairs of players hopping between rooms one by one instead of pooling together.
You don't need a friend to play team builder. Simply choose Join, not create.
This is only temporary due to the beta for the new SR, you can just as easily find a team as you could making one yourself. This effect is only for creating a new team.
