Dual-Champ Mode

Crett··11 votes·2,314 views

Everyone picks two champs at the start of the game. One of your summoner spells is replaced by Tag-out, a 10 CD summoner spell that transforms you into the other champion you selected, and vice versa. Gold earned is given to both champions and is not shared. You can have separate builds for both of them. Playing as Twitch and the enemy team just caught you out? Sion Surprise you are now Sion and ulting away

JarvanIV ult someone, transform into Trundle, their life is over.

IMAGinE the combinations. IMAGINE THE PLAYS.

Would be hilarious. But would be ruined pretty damn fast as all other game modes have... People enforcing a meta and whatnot and never picking anything other then OP combinations IN A CASUAL FUN GAME MODE...

But yes I can imagine the nonsense that would come from this.

Xerath firing everything at enemies, just doing his job of killing things half the map away... And when he finally gets dove on...

Yeah exactly lol I need people to upvote this thread so people can come in here and discuss the possible combos I'm actually seeing a large problem with the game mode, though. Dual burst mage combos would be problematic as heck.

That'd be an interesting mode, too bad it'd take a ridiculous amount of coding to pull off . Also with the way league is things might lag hard from switching builds/champions/abilities

It wouldn't be too hard to code, I wouldn't think. Riot has the technology to change one champion to another.

Sukishoo1 votes

Yeah it would. You'd be changing models, skins, voices, abilities, visuals, ability icons... Then as you said having different builds, the builds icons and possible actives and such would change as well. There'd be a lot of work to go into that, plus as I said, doing so with so many different assets would cause the game to lag out hard. It wouldn't even be able to process that much info going on at one time.

There's a sandbox mod on youtube right now that does just that without lag. Assets are not loaded on the fly; all this would take is a slightly longer load time.

I've seen those, and they just have one person in them... if the system had to detect those changes going on for 10 people it would have a hard time to process that.

It'd be presumptuous of me to assume I know the limits of their engine. You'd have to ask a Rioter who's worked on the tech.

EDIT: WHO'S THE WISE GUY WHAT'S BEEN DOWNVOTING ME

Also a 3 second cooldown on the swap is probably waaaaaaaay to low. I would say 20 seconds so you atleast have some risk if you swap at a bad time.

20 seconds is a bit high; thinking on it, I want the transformation to be a meaningful change in paradigm for you and your opponents. 3 seconds is too low, you're right. I think 10 seconds would be closer to the mark.

sounds similar to a mode i concocted where you had 2 champs at the same time

summoner swap spell and summoner assist spell

the 2nd champion is an Bot AI that sticks near your champion, you can direct it by Alt+click and command it by pressing Assist followed by QWER

swap is obviously the same

Assist has 0 CD

I thought that managing two champions would be a bit of an overload. I wanted an easily accessible ability that presented a change in paradigm for both you and your opponent.

I would say the beauty of this is that you can choose to complement the abilities of one champion with a champion that synergizes, or you can choose to cover their weaknesses.

You could try to take a champion that counters a specific champion (MasterYi coming for the adc? Rammus bring it on guy), but this duality doesn't make you too powerful, because everyone else has access to the functionality as well.

On paper, it sounds really fun.

The only way i would want this is if both champs you play as share the same % max health/mana? when you swap. I would also prefer if both champs you play as shared the same inventory. That would force you to be more considerate when choosing your 2 champs.

They should share the same % health (and mana unless their resources differ). If they shared the same inventory, that would reduce the diversity in playstyle and options the mode is supposed to be providing; why would I ever switch to a mage from an ADC?

Why would you? I mean you wouldn't would you? "That would force you to be more considerate when choosing your 2 champs."

The question is which of those creates more interesting gameplay: Completely switching paradigms is a lot more interesting than going from one ADC to another ADC, or one tank to another tank. What the player should be considering is not whether itemization favors two particular champions, but how well their kits work together.
