Team Builder Suggestion: Let people who fill often cut in line

It's really nice that TB already shows what positions need filling, and it's doubly awesome that those positions tend to be what I play. But every once in a while I want to play mid which has gigantic queue times relative to ADC, support, and jungle. I think it would be awesome if people that filled often were rewarded with faster queues for the other roles.

Obviously there's a fairness issue between who mains what. Support mains shouldn't always get faster queues for mid just because they happen to main a "fill role." I think a system akin to the reroll system in ARAMs would work well here. Those who fill often would accumulate points, which they could passively or actively spend when queueing for a lower demand role. Starting a game as a low demand role diminishes those points. More points means faster queue times. That doesn't mean you get to cut ahead of everyone else, but it might mean the matchmaking algorithm takes your points into account when choosing who gets chosen to be put on a team. For captains, captaining a team as a low demand role could mean the matchmaking system takes your points into account when deciding which team to put someone one.

Now all the mid mains out there might be saying "Fuck that. I don't want longer queues than I already have." And you're right that it's unfair just because you like a popular role. I'd love to hear other suggestions on how to make it more fair, but you'd be just as able to gain points by filling.

Thoughts?

I like it. I mean, in all honesty you should be required to play every role anyways. It's fine to have a preference but your overall game will get better if you know what to expect of other roles. As someone who just so happened to start with adc, then obviously got thrown in to support and soon after tried jungle on my own, I find myself way outmatched when I do play a solo Lane because I never get to play it. I also want to try them but never pick them voluntarily because I know I'll lose Lane and don't want to upset a teammate who wanted that role that I took from him, and when I'm a late pick I never get a solo Lane because it's popular. In summary, if you don't try a popular role early enough you get stuck having never played them, I think something like this may help that as those who are only willing to play popular roles will be encouraged to swap as well!

I up-voted because I think it's an interesting idea and merits discussion.

That said, I don't think this should be implemented. Queuing up for a needed role already nets you the benefit of a shorted queue time for that game. I don't think it's fair or necessary that it also get you a "cut to frontish" for another game as well.

The problem with all of the "give beanies to people who fill in team-builder" ideas is that there is already a significant beanie and any additional beanies would just unfairly benefit those that main support and jungle just because they like an unpopular role. Note: I say this even as I main support and jungle.

If someone could come up with a way to address the fairness issue then I could see some merit in the idea. Maybe the system could give more "cut in line" points to people that play a popular role most of the time but are trying a fill this time? Maybe your "cut in line" points cap off like ARAM reroles so you can never get more then one cut saved up at once? Maybe every back to back fill game after the first gives half the points of the last? All of these merely limit the unfairness, they don't remove it.

I agree. If the philosophy is that a person should be diverse and playing multiple/all lanes, then I don't see the suggestion as unfair at all. The person willing to help even where they suck/aren't confident/aren't interested should be rewarded. Those who only want to play those popular lanes, never filling anything else, should take what they get. It's not unfair because they did nothing to contribute to the effort of the problem. If I'm a main support, and I am willing to fill (sometimes getting jungle instead, for example), I am potentially doing a lane I dislike. And, I'm not likely to want to "free queue" mid all that often if support is my main lane after all.

Side note, but in real life, people who are willing to help out, show proficiency in many areas, willingness to learn, etc, make for better teammates.

And, in case this wasn't actually what you meant (it was what I assumed): we are talking about a "Fill" button? This means it randomly assigns you to one of the currently needed roles for the next queue, you pick a champion, and continue from there? That way, even if I main support, I may get jungle. If I main both, then if I want to play one mid game I think I deserved it.
