Teambuilder - Champion Discrimination?

I have always enjoyed using team builder to test out some more interesting champ picks, especially in the support role. On average I've found teams are totally willing to take whatever pick they get just so the game can start (since no one queues for support). I play these odd champs seriously and go about 50/50 in the process, however I've found despite getting <10 sec queue times playing -normal- supports it often takes 5+ minutes to get a hit playing a non-meta support.

So what's up with team builder? If I get to have fun, and teams+captains almost never boot for the odd pick, why is it teambuilder seems to discriminate who I get to play based on queue time?

-- I really don't want to go blind and try these picks because I feel like people deserve a little warning before they get into the game, I really don't want to force people into a rage-inducing situation if they're prone (and not entirely wrongly so, sub-optimal picks ARE just that, they're just also fun-

TL:DR, teambuilder queues long for off-role champs OR is it just my imagination?

Since the team captain can quite clearly see with their own two eyes the champion and the role being declared, there are many people who will just be glad SOMEONE picked support and just invite to avoid the wait. As long as you try to legitimately support, no problems.

With a lot of off-meta supports, people see the person in the queue and get scared, make assumptions, and so they pass them over because they are too naive/brainwashed/underinformed or otherwise bias that may affect the process.

The very system itself doesn't have a set list of what are deemed "meta" supports, it's just people being people. Scared and confused but too proud to admit it.
