League of Chess
A gamemode involving only 2 players.
The format is similar to chess, but in most cases, very different from chess. The pieces are different, and the mechanics are VERY different
Each team has the following:
- 8 grunts - Moves up to 2 spaces Vertically, Horizontally, or Diagonally
- 3 Shifters - Moves up to 4 spaces Vertically, or Diagonally, and unlimited spaces Horizontally. When attacking an enemy piece, transforms into the enemy champion. This is not applied to enemy Shifters
- 2 Sorcerers - Moves up to 3 spaces Diagonally. Can cast various spells to influence the game.
- 2 Champions - Moves an unlimited space Vertically, Horizontally, or Diagonally.
- 1 Leader - Moves up to 2 spaces Vertically, Horizontally, or Diagonally. When captured, your team loses.
These pieces are chosen in champion select. Also, each piece is the very same champion. Which means you will have 8 Syndra Grunts and 3 Darius Shifters. HOWEVER, you cannot choose to have 8 Syndra Grunts, and a Syndra leader. Each variation of pieces must be different.
When the game is played, the goal is to take the opponent's Leader piece. Similar to chess, the game is played in turns. There is no consistent right clicking unti battle is engaged. When it is the enemy turn, you cannot make a move.
Each piece has a different set of HP when the game is started. To restore this HP, your team must capture the Power Squares. Power squares are singular squares on the board, that when captured, grants the capturer Full HP, and all other allies 25% restored HP PER SQUARE. There are only 2 squares, (Each one is 4 Grunt steps away. One on both sides.) The restored health is only applied if the space is constantly occupied. You MUST be on the square to receive the health.
HP
Grunt - 40% Shifter - 75% Sorcerer - 25% Champion - 100% Leader - 60%
To attack a piece, move your piece onto an enemy piece. This will trigger a 1 on 1 of those two pieces on the Howling Abyss. The loser will be wiped from the board. The attacker also gains 10 bonus attack damage.
Sorcerers have magic spells that allow the game to be influenced. Each sorcerer has 4 spells to cast, and upon being captured, those 4 cannot be used anymore. Each spell can only be cast once.
Sorcerer 1:
- Kill - Immediately destroys one Grunt, or Shifter
- Exchange - Swaps any Grunt, Shifter or Champion's current position with the enemy's.
- Sacrifice - Removes one's own piece to restore the health of another piece.
- Imprison - Prevents any chosen piece from moving for 3 turns
Sorcerer 2:
- Heal - Restores any piece's health fully
- Teleport - Teleports any Grunt, Shifter or Champion to any unoccupied square on the board
- Resurrect - Revives any Grunt, Shifter or Champion that has fallen.
- Protect - Safeguards any chosen piece from battle declarations
And finally, I want to go over Traps.
Each team has one trap piece on the board, which is chosen by the player. The trap piece can only be set along your side of the board. Enemies who step on the trap are immediately removed from the board. Afterwards, the trap is disabled and cannot be used afterwards.
Gameplay
The purpose of the Grunt is to make a push towards the enemy team's Leader. They are the most likely source of getting to the Leader with the least risk.
The Sorcerers are not excellent in battle. They can easily be defeated due to their low health bars. Instead, keep them held back, ready to cast spells safely.
The Champions have many uses. They serve as the bodyguard of the Leader, or if the player is feeling risky, they can also be the one to assassinate the enemy Leader. They are a powerful force that will serve many ways, so keep them alive.
Tired of playing for now? That's okay. Feel free to pause the match and come back to your turn within 24 hours. Failure to return within 24 hours of your turn will immediately forfeit the match. This is included to release the pressure of having to stay around to finish the constant fighting if something comes up in reality, but it also assures that you did not join the match against this player for nothing.
