This gamemode wouldn't be a featured gamemode, rather an actual one that players can play all the time, other than the 4 existing gamemodes of League, one of which isn't played as often... You've proven you can throw 12 players into one setting with Hexakill. This gamemode will require a new map with three bases. The lanes could form a three pointed star, or a curved form of it, with jungle filling in the center and possibly outside the concave angles of the star. The objective could be...

  1. A simple destruction of the other two enemies' nexus, once one is destroyed spawning will end for that team.

  2. A king of the hill objective that requires teams to fight over an epic monster, one atop a "mountain" or otherwise in the center of the map. Albeit this monster would be stronger and larger than baron, dragon, or vilemaw, and would probably require a level 18 team fully built to take on. It could also harass lanes from atop its high perch in the middle of the map. Perhaps a lava monster, scorched earth Xerath's big daddy.

This gamemode could make people think about getting to level 18 first and making sure that the 8 other players don't steal up the epic monster first, or rather from the team that got it low. It also gives more possibility for featured game modes on a new map. I prefer the king of the hill option, because it lessens the fact that two teams could group up on one team to then duke it out themselves.

I also know that a lot of effort was put into refining Summoner's Rift, and I think that you could make an outstanding map for this gamemode, possibly called the "Magma Chamber" (totally not stolen or anything) or based in Ionia for some possible tropical shore settings.

Edit* I didn't completely check the boards for a similar idea, though the king of the hill idea still stands. I also wish for the third team to be green for a RGB setup.

Edit** I'm pretty sure the king of the hill option is the much better option because it can have many variables that can be implemented to counterbalance a snowballing team and a chance of 'Teaming up' on one team.

I would play this exclusively for, literally, the rest of my league career.

I mentioned such an idea a while back and was heavily downvoted for the same reason by everyone: The weakest team will simply be teamed up against 90% of the time. Then it will be a 1v1 again.

*Octakill... Hexakill would be 3v3v3 edit: nvm read that wrong. Octakill's still pretty epic though.

This mode already exists as the primary PvP mode of a MOBA called Dead Island Epidemic. Consider DIE's existence a long running case study of why this style of play simply doesn't function with a modern audience. Whoever gets an early lead is immediately and endlessly ganged up on by the other two teams, regardless of how the flow of battle turns out.

Further more, in such modes the community develops a mindset that if you don't continually kill the 'First Ahead' team, even if you're going to lose to Team #2 by doing so, you're playing incorrectly and will draw verbal flaming up the whazoo for any deviation from this style. Unfortunately the majority of people who play games simply do not understand rudimentary tactics; so anything more complicated than 1 Team v 1 Team doesn't work.

Picture is of something else, but the lines of it could be used for the lane paths, and a base at the point of each of the three ends

Here's why 3 way fights don't work: Contrary to what you saw in Pirates of the Caribbean with the stupid wheely-deal fight, 3-way fights last about .3 seconds. Basically, the instant 2 people decide to both stab the third person at the same time, that person dies. This mode would be no different. You need at least 4 teams to make this work.

The best stability would come from 5 teams where for any given team, its two neighbours are allied and its two opposites are opponents (like Magic: the Gathering's colour wheel.)
