Riot Games, Please Develop a Map Editor
I love Lol, but how many times do players have to choose Summoner's Rift for a 5v5 MOBA game? Developing a player-generated map editing tool would significantly improve the gameplay experience, provide variety, and let the production artist's and developers to efficiently focus on other aspects, like cosmetics (map skins/graphics), and designing more champs. Financially it would open up to creating "premium" maps designed directly from Riot, which can be purchased by the players, especially using the premium maps for professional play during specific tournament seasons. I would definitely be happy if this becomes a priority sometime soon, adding into the intrigue level of the game, and would make League of Legends stand out from competitors with the likelihood to evolve the genre.
Coming from a Star Craft 1 background, I remember playing on Battle.net and joining such a vibrant community being able to try out different maps. A comprehensive map editor would let players modify the standard rules like gold accumulation/second, choose Black Market minions as standard minions, or even global cooldown reduction and movement speed for hyper-gameplay, enable/disable build items, etc. Riot can produce new types of objectives, new monsters, which players may purchase for their custom-designed maps.
On the player side you don't have to worry about earning IP for purchasing new champions. I'm sure there are many players who wishes to earn IP but have trouble deciding which map to choose. I don't sincerely think 5 maps will solve this, especially when most players prefer to play 2 or 3 of them. Summoner's Rift can be daunting for most beginning players so they opt for playing Dominion as cheap way to earn IP. And Twisted Treeline is a decent in-betweener for earning IP without the intensity of a full 5v5 game. But what about a 6v6 map? Or even a map that is primarily focused on jungling instead of the classical laning phases, as, I'm sure, it will open up possibilities towards meta-design. With clever design I'm sure it's possible. This way, players will want to play more without worrying about how much IP they are earning per game and instead try out new things.
League of Legends has so much content (loads of champs to try out) and a strong dedicated base of players there is no reason why there shouldn't be something like this. Star Craft still kept its integrity for tournament-style gameplay even though they had a creative map community. The irony is that, according to history, the earliest of the MOBA genre can be traced to Star Craft. League of Legends should be no different.
