Is the Lore Retcon The First Signs of LoL's Decline?

With many games that have longevity, change is necessary. If you keep doing the same thing over and over, you'll eventually die. Although sometimes, that change can bring death if not handled properly.

I don't feel like I had enough of pre-retcon Runeterra. I was excited to hear more about Runeterra's lore, and held on to that excitement despite the lack of consistent lore updates since the JoJ ended.

Now, with this retcon....I feel kind of alienated as an older player. Most of this retconned lore just feels wrong, especially when some of the most iconic champions are being rewritten (Jax) (Lee Sin) (Morgana) (Kayle) .

Just the idea that Riot would retcon their lore fills me with feelings of negativity, especially towards the new lore, considering how excited I was to hear some of the developments on the old lore, and how the new lore will eradicate the possibilities that existed while the Institute of War was still a thing.

I hate to say it, but as a long time player, I have been far less excited to play LoL since the announcement of the lore retcon.

I just don't care quite as much about this game anymore. LoL's lore just doesn't seem to matter anymore, seeing as how it can be changed at Riot's whim, without a need for consistency. It's cheap.

While I mildly enjoy the E-sports scene, and had some fun/frustration trying to rank up, the charm that the old lore had is what kept me interested in this game.

I don't feel like any of the new lore has had any of the charm that the old lore had. I don't feel nearly as compelled to keep playing anymore.

I'm going to keep trying, but it's getting rare that I even play 3 matches a week (and most of those are arams). Same goes for most of my friends.

I want to feel excited about this game again, but with the recent changes to lore, it's kinda hard.

No, because too few people actually cared about the lore. The retcons are to make lore more in line with a marketing strategy; they will in all likely hood succeed.
