@Riot, Could We Have Bi-Weekly Lore Releases in the Form of an Evolving Story for Runeterra?

You've shown us that you can deliver this at a pretty high quality in the past.

**It doesn't have to be in the same format as the JoJ. ** unless you want it to be. Just give us some quality content on a consistent basis like you used to do.

Even if the content is of little impact, it would be nice if we could actually hear a bit more about the day to day life of champions/(normal people) in Runeterra.

I think that this is what made LoL's lore so great in the early days. Every week or two, we would hear some cool stuff about what was going on in Runeterra, and it really fleshed out Runeterra in a way that made it feel more alive than it currently does.

Riot, even if you don't wanna bring back the JoJ, can you at least please start releasing lore development on a MUCH shorter time frame again?

It's hard to care about lore when we only hear about lore developments once in a blue moon...or less.

I'm sick of retcons, develop your lore Riot! Give us something new!

I made a thread about Riot doing similar a while back and heartily endorse this notion. One of the reasons I absolutely LOVE MTG's lore is because they update weekly, with stories that give us insight into the lives of non-major and major characters alike. Sometimes these stories move the plot along, sometimes they only hint at things to come, sometimes they serve no purpose but to characterize something - and that's fantastic.

And while Riot's said that they dislike text as a medium for conveying story, I think there's enough of a demand for something like that amongst us lore buffs. Hell, if they wanted to appeal to the larger fanbase they could always do comics to add visual appeal. That way it's a win for everyone involved.

Videos and events are pretty awesome, but what we need is lore that can be told consistently.

Well we could, but that would require effort from the lore team.

This is why i miss Dawngate, they did new evolving lore releases bi-weekly, and one of them each month was a branching story that people got to vote on, and you had a chance to unlock more votes for teh option you chose in win rewards that are directly tied to something like the Honor mechanic in league.... SOO mad at EA for canceling that game T.T

LOL, wait wait wait! You want Narrative. To release lore. Periodically? Get out of here man that is absurd. That would require them to, ya know, put content out that wasn't tied to champion releases.

Narrative is a joke right now.

They have "technical problems" preventing them from releasing longer lores. Sure. They haven't released lore without a champion release in years. Lol, kay. They refuse to communicate, saying "They'll get better, promise." Fool me once...

And you want, periodic, bi-weekly, lore releases.

I hate to say this, but keep dreaming because it isn't going to happen. And that is the thing that pisses me off the most, narrative sucks, of their own admittance, and they have nothing to show, of their own admittance. I'm sick of empty promises, I'm sick of the rope-around, and I'm sick of them hiding behind NDA's. They need to get their shit together, or they're no longer going to have an audience that WANTS them to produce lore. If that's what Riot wants, great. But be honest about it. If you're going to lie at least do it to our faces.

I think even if that would happen at some point for me it´s just already in a "too little, too late - state". They already had a good Lore, they decided to throw it away. Nothing they can do anymore to earn back any trust from me when it comes down to this aspect of the game.

Hell It could even be weekly or bi-monthly. Just give us something.

"EVOLVING STORY"

All of my keks, Riot doesn't want to get involved that much with story anymore.

GenoXx4/21/2015, 9:49:45 PM5 votes

I can't even play league the way i used to anymore because the lore is in shambles

They should get systematic lore releases, would give us something to look forward to (assuming we'd like the new lore...). They just don't seem to be ready for them yet.

Heh. Lore releases.

"The community wants lore? What!? This is absurd! They haven't bought nearly enough skins for us to care about the lore! Remove every champion's lore this instant!" -Riot, after reading this post

I have a feeling they're working on something like that already, but they're hesitant to announce or reveal anything for obvious reasons (there's more to lose for announcing it early than there is announcing it at the last minute).

The reason it's taking so long I think is, well like with MTG, Wizards haven't always been that dedicated to the lore. MTG is 22 years old. Thats over two decades of time to dip into the lore, changes things, add things, take things out, mess with whats there, find what people like and dislike, build an actual history to return to later that can actually give people a legitimate feeling of nostalgia,...basically my point is, they've had a lot of time to mess up and learn from their mistakes and lay the groundwork for their current system of game and story production.

I'm pretty certain Wizards prewrites all of its stories for each of its blocks at least a year in advance, possibly more. If Riot were to take a similar route in producing lore on a frequent and regular basis, they'd have to have quite a bit of time to prepare future content and have all of their stories ready beforehand, and I have a gut feeling they've been doing that for at least the past year or so.

Again, this is just a feeling, but Riot is a company that's shown it would rather take a long time to create something that's "futureproof" (my main example being their dedication to the dedicated NA server infrastructure, which takes a LOT of money and a LOT of time to create, but they're sticking with it, as it's a much better solution than keeping things as is or splitting NA into two servers) rather than just create small things that would affect everything in a way they can't predict in the future and that would possibly restrict them later down the line. Basically, they'd rather fix the problem rather than the symptoms.

I'm giving Riot the benefit of the doubt. They're not really producing much of anything right this second, but I highly, highly doubt they're not preparing something.

Yes, all my yes (as I mentioned in my previous comment here). We need more lore content in general.

Curling Veigar4/21/2015, 2:36:45 PM1 votes

highly doubt they'd do this but id love it

I would like a LoL Magazine that releases lore in it. And make interesting covers like for Valentines Day you have Jayce... http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130306033158/leagueoflegends/images/e/eb/Riot_IQ_cover_UPDATED.jpg

Impetual4/23/2015, 6:32:12 AM1 votes

Could we get a RIoter in here please?! If it isn't possible to get lore updates bi-weekly just tell us that you can't deliver it.

If you can deliver it, tell us a bit about how you plan to do so.

Please Riot, talk to us!

An actual post from a RIoter **who can give us an informed answer **about this would be awesome!

qetzel4/21/2015, 3:21:02 PM1 votes

I would like to see something new from the world building team first. Something glorious.

Then this. I don't think this will work well without new background. Think about it - everything in the old JoJ had League as its background

EDIT: Actually, thinking about it I am not sure. I would be concerned that this doesn't work with the creative process. Better for Riot to plan to have stories out every few weeks but not have a strict schedule. I would rather more sporadic interesting pieces than regular pieces forced out because they have to be written by a strict deadline only a short time away.

N2it4/21/2015, 3:42:02 PM1 votes

I would love this idea to come into play but more building of the world needs to be done. This could be a new and improved JoJ. I still go back and reread those from time to time.

That would require the Lore department to be extracted from the Black Hole that was summoned by the Dark Summoners. Unfortunately, the Lore Staff chose to valiantly sacrifice their lives in making sure that the High Summoners of the Institute of War were successfully written about saving Runeterra at the cost of erasing themselves, the Institute of War, the League of Legends, the Dark Summoners, and all other summoners currently at the Institute when this happened.

Don't worry though. Eventually, we'll figure out a way to extract them, rather then having everything communicated via Phreak Memes (the Tons of Phreak in them is the only thing currently strong enough to break out of the Black Hole's gravitational field).

Sincerely, Riot Lore Extraction and Communication Division
