the problem is you MADE him gay, you for obviously pc points purposes just made him gay, he went from wife and kid to gay for literally no reason other than antiheterosexual bs. if you wanna make a new gay champ go for it, dont start changing champs just because.
Varus' wife and kids in the old lore had about as much impact as a favorite dog. They were trite, mentioned acknowledgements in his old story to set up the scene for a trite revenge story. His old lore was vaguely written, and used such common tropes so that the audience would "know" things just by familiarity with the story. We never saw any interaction or mention of his family in the game or otherwise, so they really didn't serve any purpose other than a JRPG plot device.

They didn't make Varus gay. There's nothing in his new lore that supports that statement. They changed him from a man who allowed himself to be possessed by the Darkin to a Darkin who possessed the bodies of a gay couple. No mention of his sexuality or any part of his character other than him being beautiful, sadistic and out for vengeance.
Rather than having a PC agenda, it seems to me more like they were already planning to rework his character to give all the Darkin a concrete, running theme (I.e. they all reside in weapons and possess humans). The gay couple just seems like a convenient opportunity to appease the people who have been begging for LGBT representation to me.
