@Riot, Why Is Bard ok for Runeterra, When the IoW Isn't? He is literally: DEUS EX MACHINA!

Isn't he pretty much the definition of "deus ex machina" in Runeterra since he doesn't have to deal with any political/personal ramifications to his actions?

Doesn't he have even less of a concrete reason to be there since he doesn't really seem to be solely tied to that world? Why is he even invested in it?

How is it better for the League of Legends (which doesn't exist anymore, sadly) Lore to have Bard, rather than the Institute of War? (which once again, never had absolute control over champions, Riot seems to forget this)

Once again, how is this state of existence where Bard Exists and the IoW doesn't create better Lore?

I'd rather have a powerful, corrupt, greedy, politically biased, backroom dealing organization like the IoW than a character who embodies the phrase "deus ex machina"!

He's a Deus ex Machina who doesn't care about petty mortal affairs

While I agree that the IoW could have stayed quite easily (hell every single piece of recent lore could have been adapted to fit, or they could have had some calamity destroy the IoW, or almost anything other than retcon..)

Bard is, at least in their eyes, the perfect balance - he can stop world-ending events without meddling in "day to day" mortal affairs.

Also, while he can travel anywhere almost (or even actually) instantly, he can still only be in one place at a time.

He can. The key difference is that he doesn't necessarily want to, whereas the IoW had both the power and the inclination to meddle in mortal affairs. Not that lore couldn't be written around that, coughlazycough, but it would be much easier to write around bard than the IoW.

Bard doesn't prevent wars,I mean look at the video,he goes to the ionian village and simply takes the orb before vanishing again,he doesn't do anthing against the battle itself.

And besides that,Bard may be powerful,but he is still only a single champion,others can fight him and stop him,whereas the IoW was far more powerful than Bard(they fricking stopped the 2 most powerful armies in all runeterra) and thus able to prevent much more and had a much bigger influence on the city states.

Bard's specific attention is to relics of power and nothing else, though. Judging by his story, he's fine with lesser beings possessing relics of power if they are not misused - especially for war. Given the higher existence he and the other celestials embody (Soraka's Stars as well), they all seem to possess an intense distaste for violence, though express it differently. Each one may have a different take on how to avoid or be rid of it, where as in this case Bard is literally 'dont erase existence, pls'.

The really interesting question is what will Bard do if the Void ever breaks the barrier and floods enmasse? Do the celestials care about other dimensional beings? Do they embody /their/ virtues as well? Or are they alien, utterly foreign invaders that might prompt gods themselves to intervene?
