What I'd like to see from a Syndra color story
Back with more Syndra threads, yeah! Yeah no seriously I’m just writing threads because PBE queue is so goddamn long… But hey, as I’m writing this, the queue is almost over! And by the time I'm posting this, the queue is over! Yay!
So today I’d like to talk about what I’d like to see from a Syndra color story! I know she’s not in a high priority position right now since she was updated last year and even got a short story, but still, all champions must get their due at some point!
Disclaimer – These will just be what I personally want to see, put in a specific order. I know all of my wishes cannot appear in a single story, so I’ll just list what I think would be the most fitting. There are other stuff that could happen - for instance we could get one of the old guards of Fae'lor telling to story of Syndra, but I don't think that would be fitting so I'm not gonna mention it. This is purely personal!

######1. A deeper personality
Ah, Syndra’s personality. I know it’ll be hard to make everyone happy with this one.
I believe Syndra needs to get a deeper personality. Her only canon appearance in The Dreaming Pool depicts her as angry and bitter – and don’t get me wrong, it’s completely normal given the circumstances.
However, I’d like her color story to help us understand her more. I don’t doubt she’s more than just an angry girl with anger issues. But I’d like to see it before claiming it. Of course, I think her anger, for now at least, is an important part of her character, and I’m fine with that. But I would like it very much if Riot could give her some depth.
For instance, I really like Irelia’s color story Stains on a Name as it does a very good job depicting her inner self, her doubts, etc. I think this is what Syndra needs to most.
I don’t know how, as given her current situation it would be a bit complicated. But I think there’s room for that, if she meets people or something like that. It sorts of reminds me of this series, Once Upon A Time which, while definitely not the greatest series ever, had an episode where the Wicked Witch met a blind man. It didn’t end up well, but I think something akin to that could happen. Syndra will eventually run into people (and people will definitely notice a flying half-fortress anyway), and I’d like to see what happens in Syndra’s head then. I doubt she’d be as mean as she was to the people who tried to hurt her on Fae’lor... Right?
######2. A goal and a place in the world
Now this is something I think Syndra needs a lot as well. Currently, she has no goal other than “I don’t want to be controlled anymore,” which is fine but… Eh.
This is partly why I feel like Syndra exists in a vacuum. We don’t really know what she wants beyond “not being controlled,” and while this is totally understandable… I think she needs something clearer.
Old Syndra (which will now be referred to as Olddra) wanted to kill the Ionian elders because reasons. I don’t think that can be the case anymore because Ionia’s different from that time now. Her other goal was to develop her power to its fullest and beyond. Now, that is something I would personally love to see, but I feel like this should be more of an aside goal rather than a main goal.
I don’t know what Riot has in store for her (or even if they have anything), so I don’t know how they could give her an actual goal, but I think there’s room for that. She’s been bullied because reasons, and now you’ve got Zed and his order who are extremists, she may want to engage against them because of what they do? Random idea, I don’t think that will be the case, but you get the idea!
I think Syndra needs a place in Ionia and, more largely, in the world. She currently exists in a vacuum where she doesn’t know anyone, she has no clear goal, and no one’s aware of her (save for some noxians and Sirik). I think she could be a force to be reckoned with in Ionia’s upcoming civil war.
######3. Her incredible magical potential
Weirdly enough, this part comes third. I’m a sucker for power and destruction, so of course I’d love to see Syndra do some crazy shit around! But I think this has been done well enough already in The Dreaming Pool. I think Syndra’s magical potential is an essential part of her as this was one of her original themes, but she needs the two above more than she needs another representation of her skills.
I think it would be too bad to see her do the exact same things she did in The Dreaming Pool, and unless Riot can show us more of her incredible power, I think they should focus on the other issues.
But as I said, if they give me Syndra doing some crazy OP stuff with her powers, I’m not gonna say no. :p
Of course there are stories which include the three things I’ve mentioned so far. I’m thinking about Ahri’s A Fair Trade, which shows her purpose, her powers, and her personality. I’m not too greedy so I’m not hoping for this much, but it would be nice to see at least two of the things I’ve mentioned!
I think the two first points are essential for Syndra. The third one I would appreciate a lot because this is totally my jam, but she doesn’t need it. So that was it, thanks for reading yet another one of my Syndra threads! I hope Syndra will get a color story in the foreseeable future, even though I highly doubt it since we’re not coming back to Ionia before a long time… Well, save for Zed’s comic but well, it’s gonna focus on Zed. Maybe she’ll get a mention, who knows!
