Why did Targon imprison the darkin and not kill them?

We see in Twilight of the Gods that the ascended are completely capable of dying. Why would the darkin be any different? They are also ascended, why did the Targonions not kill them instead of imprisoning them inside indestructible weapons?

Im not sure it was "Targon" as a whole that decided the Darkin should be... punished. But rather the Aspect of Twilight working on its own judgement, and yes I know Pantheon was involved but there's no specific lore to say he did so for any reason other than to be involved in the biggest conflict of the age. But I could be wrong on this entire thought. I am curious however if The Protector would have been for or against what happened to the Darkin faction?

Anyway.

The Aspect of Twilight's punishment for the Darkin was to exterminate them, and on the whole that is what happened. However it wasn't done directly by Targon but rather the Shurimans who were taught how to trap a handful of extremely powerful Darkin and use those weapons as an advantage over the rest. I think Twilight went to this trouble because it would be poetic justice to have the God-warriors killed by mortal beings.

Because they hadn't yet exhausted their use - though the Darkin would never serve Targon willingly, obviously, so they were turned into weapons to be used as tools against the Void.

Targon only kills someone when it exhausts the means of using them. The Darkin were just a tools to Targonians much like everything else in the world, so they turned them into tools.

From what i've been reading from around the boards (and on reddit), the Lore department groups apparently don't communicate with one another very much. This results in even more story conflict in addition to even more champions being dumpstered in the lore and personality departments.

Aspect of Twilight: "Imprisoning god-like warriors with PTSD inside indestructible weapons so they can be tortured for all eternity? What could possibly go wrong?"

Btw Aspects are also capable of dying. Like everything in LoL.

If I have to guess, it'd be because the last 5 Darkin were also the most powerful ones and therefore the Shurimans couldn't kill them, they had to imprison them.

That, or Targon has plans for the Darkin in the future.

I'd say the former is the most likely scenario.
