@Riot Please, Explicitly Tell Us What Parts Of the Old Lore are Still Canon and What Parts Aren't

A blanket statement that telling us we should assume that everything happened the way it did before except that the Institute of War and Summoners never existed is ludicrous.

That definitely isn't a very concise or coherent way to deliver lore content.

If you are going to make such a dramatic change to Runeterra, you should at least back it up with proper lore content to support it.

If you want to build a new Runeterra, "Retconterra" as I will call it, then actually build one.

Don't just say "Assume Runeterra still exists as it was except that it is now fundamentally different in several ways..." That's just a cheap copout to allow the old lore to be rewritten as lazily as possible.

Riot, if you have to do a retcon, DON'T BE LAZY WITH IT!!!

Do it right, so that you can show us the reason that it needs to be done at all! (the reason which, I'm still not seeing...)

They won't answer this because they don't know. Recent Riot posts have said that the Lore dept. is working on everything else. They don't just work on Lore. That's their way of saying that the Lore Dept. isn't a Lore Dept. anymore. We aren't going to get high quality stories from them because they don't exclusively work on lore. They spend their time working with the other teams so think of the lore team as "xxxx- Sound engineer and part time lore guy".

The resolution of the Invasion of Ionia (the old one with the League match) is not canon. For all we know, Ionia after 20 has still some of its territory controlled by Noxus.

Kalamanda has some aspects of it canon, not sure how much but given Sions lore, some of it has to be canon.

Rule of thumb I follow is that everything from Darius to today is canon. Everything before that is subject to a lot of change, however certain things do carry over in to the new cannon, such as Lissandra being aligned with Ashe, and the Noxian invasion of Ionia.

I wouldn't call it cheap, or even lazy. Its just the simplest. And I really wish I could remember who said it, but I do believe there was a quote along the lines of "Simple is elegant." Why make a dozen difficult changes, when a single simple one does the same job?
