A letter to Riot:

I am one of the many Irelia players who feel that the new Frostblade Irelia skin differs greatly from the original, and not in a good way. For me, I loved the frigid blue aesthetic of the old skin. Looking at the champion made you feel cold, and playing her made you look really cool (sorry, I didn't choose the pun life). However, the new color choices (sparkling amethyst purple) as well as her new wardrobe (Irelia is a strong-willed fighter who don't need no fuzzy fur embroidered armor) takes the skin in a different direction. While I do quite like the new Frostblade aesthetic in its own way (she's almost like a gemstone, and the design is oddly similar to Houseki no Kuni characters), it's not what I bought the old Frostblade for - and I don't see myself using the new Frostblade skin at all, unfortunately.

While a refund would be chill (I'll stop), I'm just here for solidarity purposes, to join the voice of Frostblade Irelia fans. Also, I'd like to know if there's a concrete directions for when a skin such as Frostblade Irelia becomes "upgraded" and far too different from the original.

Honestly, just rework the skin into a new Winter Wonderland skin. It fits that idea and theme perfectly. And then redo Frostblade properly. It is fine if she has 2 ice themed skins, so long as they are different enough in design and thematic.

K, Rito. We know you love the color purple, but can we stop changing blue skins to purple? Just because they are right next to each other on the color wheel doesn't automatically mean they are synonymous with one another.

This whole situation with Frostbut reminds me of a recent VGU of Swain and how new Tyrant Swain looks worse then the old one in many ways. Frostbut doesn't affect me personally since I don't own the skin but I feel your pain. That's how I felt looking at the new Tyrant Swain. It feels terrible to get very excited and start imagining what your favorite skin will look like after a VGU only to get disappointed by the reveal.

The thing is, it's completely up to Riot to rework skins how they want (obviously) and when we see those skins for the first time it's already too late to make any significant changes to them. Riot needs to get better informed about players expectation for reworked skins if they want to avoid people getting disappointed like this. I suppose they use surveys and probably some other means to get the information from players but I can't believe they got the green light for this level of change in the theme of the skin.

It's too late for Frostbut and Tyrant but we need to voice our opinions so hopefully Riot will hear us and change the way they rework old skins that so many people loved.

Most of the reworked skins are really amazing so we know you can do it Riot. There is no excuse for reworking some of the skins like this.

I really enjoyed your calm and nicely worded post. I hope Riot sees it, cause I'm afraid that with all the "they nerfed her booty"posts they'll just disregard the posts as immature/super picky/not worth paying attention to, and miss the fact that the new Frostblade, while a nice splash/model, is definitely not true to the original, even though they did try to do so.

Like some other posts state, they're in too far to make radical changes, but hopefully this can be addressed. This skin could totally be a Winter Wonder Irelia and not what Frostblade originally represented.

I support this even though I don't have a Frostblade. Altogether I want to mention that Infiltrator is also suffering the failed art rework.

Main things I dislike about the remade frostbutt skin:

  1. That stupidly silly puffy FUR(?) around her neck, why the hell would you do this to that skin?!
  2. It was always a BLUE skin, why turn it into a purple abomination?

Overally it's everything that made me NOT buy winter karma skin. Now you forced that crap on me anyways by changing best irelia skin into an purple ugliness. I'm sad now and I'll spam your support with refund tickets for sure -that's not even CLOSE to a skin I bought. Having the same name isn't enough.

So it seems people have similar feeling about that skin rework and most people agree about fur and color changes being a terrible decision. Too bad riot decided to pretend they can't see it.

i think they tried to turn frostblade more into freljord, where you have many fur and armor. but this doesnt fit irelia, her playstyle, her country and her aesthetics (body and butt)

they already made good old feral WW garbage and i thought they learned from it, yet they completely DESTROY again one of the best skins....

in-game model she is - imo - a 7 out of 10.

much better, but not good enough.

I think this is the main problem. The Original Frostblade Irelia was more of a sci-fi or Hextech kind of skin and conveyed the feeling of being 'at one with the cold' with aesthetic similar to Cryocore Brand or Frozen Shen. The new skin is more like the Snow Day skin line or more like Winter Wonderland Lulu/Snowstorm Sivir, where it's more people 'dressed for cold weather' in their overall aesthetic. It would be like a Brand rework making his Cryocore skin removing the sci-fi elements and throwing a big fur coat on him.

the hair look like the elemtanl ultimate lux skin . almost like the electrical version .
