Whilst she didn't change that much, the overall idea of Neeko being this savage tribal cave-woman was a cool idea that I feel would of made a lot more sense with her final place in the lore. Instead she ended up as another cutesy run of the mill style champion that we've seen so many times before.
The final design they chose for her feels way too safe and pander-y.
Can't have a creepy character as a LGBTQ+. That's why they had to change her.
Downvote all you want but this is the reason, if the LGBTQ+ character ends up being unattarctive/creepy or whatever form of dislikeable look/attitude then Riot will be attacked from any sort of media and SJW as a homophobic cis-centered company.
If your character's personality leans heavily into the innocent child-like wonder, fish-out-of-water archetype. Then the visual language being communicated probably shouldn't be of an untamed, feral-looking creature.
Could you imagine Ariel (Little Mermaid), Starfire (TeenTitans), Mantis (GotG2) looking bit like a troglodyte?

It's weird that people are condemning Riot for pandering for one group of people, instead of their group of people.
I mean, she turns yellow and rattles her head spines in her taunt, which shows the fact that she's perfectly capable of coming off as scary/threatening. She just chooses not to do that.
Plus, she has the ability to shapeshift. We saw the consequences of that in her color story, where she took out an entire Noxian outpost by herself by making them turn against each other. That's fucking terrifying to think about.
When did RIOT ever dare to actually put an unattractive humanoid woman in the game? Never...
I just wish she had hands/feet that were even slightly more gecko-y. The nails just look wrong imo
