Marai City Discussion - (Nami's Race)

So I have a project I'm working on and I am trying to come up with a layout/style for the Marai underwater city. If you dont know what the Marai are look at Nami.

But back to the city, what would it look like? I did a super basic sketch of what I think it could be like based of Nami's crown.

As you can see the Moonstone shines above a great castle/citadel with the city commons positioned north and south with tall spires east and west.

I would love to have some discussion with true Nami fans on what the Marai city would look like. Any features you think there would be?

As long as there is a hideout where Nami can keep her thingamabobs and dinglehoppers.

I didn't think of that. My whole design was based without taking into consideration this factor.

Thank you.

I imagine it would have a large Reef around it, abundant in their underwater agriculture. Marai can be vegetarians if they want too! :D

They do live in the depths and require the power of the Moonstone to ward off the darkness. A reef is generally in relatively shallow waters where the sun may reach. This city reef would definitely need to be supported by the Stone. All the more reason for the Tidecaller to fetch it.

I don't care what they live in... Wait I do...

But they NEED pet-eels. Like the ''un-funny joke eel''

Those need to be their pets. summoner 31

If you guys need some inspiration, I've been picking at these links for ideas for a while now for my own Dungeons and Dragons home campaign.

Is this project for a Dungeons and Dragons or something?

EDIT: Also, are you just looking for the look of the city? or are we getting more detailed as to get into the culture, politics, etc.

It's good to see that you are interested in the topic.

First off the project in question will, hopefully, be a sihlloette style animation based off Nami's lore (her quest to get the abysal pearl and then to make the trade for the moon stone) accompanied by the Tidecaller music Riot made.

I am coming up with ideas for a possible project to do in my art and animation course I have started. So hopefully I get good enough to achieve something cool.

As for the animation itself, like I said, sihlloette style tale as Nami undergoes her journey. There will be a part where the Marai city is seen and since there is no Art provided by Riot I will need to take some creative licence.

In my sketch I've taken some inspiration from Nami's crown.

As someone that's coming into League from a table top background, I can't help but notice some similarities between Nami's helmet and Eldar Farseer from Warhammer 40k.

I bring it up because those blue jewels all over his helmet and robes are also something that's all over there ships and stuff in the lore too. She has five of those blue jewels with as little as she's wearing, that we can see, I'm assuming there's a sixth on the other side of her staff. It could be something that's all over the buildings of the Marai kingdom. Perhaps it's all over there cloths, armor (or lack there of).

What also gets me overthinking is that her helmet, armor and staff all look like metal, for an underwater champion from a underwater kingdom. It gets me thinking if she's not living near a volcano, then at least they're close enough to volcanic vents. Perhaps that could be an element of danger to add to the animation as well.

Interesting about the gems. I will have to incorporate them.

As for the volcanic vents it makes sense. The city is obviously in the deep of the ocean if they need it as light. It also protects them from the abysal creatures, which I doubt would live anywhere near the surface. So being deep enough that volcanic vents provide some warmth would be ideal in the cold depths.

The Marai probably have a massive vault for any treasures lost in their territory. I'm just imagining Ariel's stash from "My Little Mermaid" on a massive scale. Maybe it's a massive museum of what curios sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
