Random question: Is that a scythe in hecarim's skull?

I was looking at champions to buy and noticed hecarim's splash. But then I noticed that the horn which I had always thought was a part of him was actually attached to a.....handle? Like the back of his head actually looks like a handle and it seems to connect to that....horn(?) on his head.

So I was wondering is that an scythe of some sort? Or am I seeing things?
