The New Ranked Borders: My Constructive Feedback

After taking a look at the new borders for end-of-season-rankings, I have some input that I would like to give to Riot.

Firstly, I am totally aware that this is on the PBE, and that all of this is a work in progress. However, They are a huge step backwards from the original ranking borders in terms of design, color depth, and overall "fullness" (will explain in a moment).

I'm going to use the Platinum borders as my examples because that is the one I have at this time. The old ope is full; the corners don't dip down, they stay in the corner and add a little ribbon-like flair. The new one looks too sharp, literally, and the color is too green instead of a blueish-green color. Platinum. The old ones shine in mild ways that reflect off of the border in a way that is pleasing to the eye. The shine effects on the new ones are way too sharp and they aren't even shining as if the light is reflecting, they are just brighter hues of the same border color. If you also notice, the Master/Challenger borders look the same, whereas the rest look poor. The new design scheme almost looks mechanical and autonomic, while the old ones maintain a fantasy blacksmith-ribbon design that reflects the entire game better as a whole (in my opinion).

The Division Emblems: Holy cow is that a bad idea. I don't even know where to start on why this is a bad idea. But I will start and do what I can.

Visual: These are bad for several reasons. Firstly, the less of the emblems you have, the higher rank you are. Less is more, but it doesn't ever seem that way. It is a bit counter intuitive. Secondly, they don't even match the border color scheme. They are just enough of a different shade compared to the rest of the border that it becomes an eyesore. Not to mention that they are also way too sharp and way too bright.

Psychological: There are going to be people - lots and lots of people - who are going to use the emblems as grounds for flaming their teammates and abusing them. It can go one of several ways:

-If you have 1 or 2 emblems, then people expect you to do better than someone with 4 or 5. If you have a bad game, people will say things like "How did you ever get that high in rank?" and worse insults tagged on.

-If you have 4 or 5, then people are expecting you to do poorly, so if you do well then they say "You sure are lucky this game" or if they are higher up than you "I'm better than you because I got higher, so listen to my calls and fall in line" and so on and so forth.

-If you have 4 or 5 and do poorly, then that gives the jerks the satisfaction of feeling that their expectations were correct, and then they feel they have all the justification they need to jump on and insult you.

-I realize that this happens anyway, but come on, this will just add more fuel to the fire that is the idiots and the assholes.

The new borders are all-around really bad. They don't capture the essence of being ranked a certain rank like the old ones do. Many people advance just to get the border that they like most, and now they are all really dull and mono-hued. They will feed the trolls and the assholes even more than before, and they are an assault on the eyes. Riot, if you do plan on changing the borders for ranked players, enhance what is already there (and there really isn't any need to do so from what we believe), don't start all over with a new design. Keep the ones we have now, they are all around more reflective of the game than these new ones could ever achieve.

New ones look better to me. More colorful and it is easier to distinguish the ranks. With the old (current) ones Silver and Plat look extremely similar except for the corner flourish.

The division emblems are kind of silly though, just because having more seems better.

These are placeholders, they aren't making it to live.

Here's my constructive feedback: Remove this stupid upd8

Riot's said they're just placeholders to test reward distribution, this is probably why it says "TEST BORDER" at the top

OP pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one.

I do not have to much of a problem with the new ones on a whole, but really have to agree the old ones were more visually appealing.

The major point I really feel the same about is the division markers. They just are not visually appealing to me. I enjoy the more sleek look to the current borders. Additionally I have to agree that including these will only give an easy visual way for players to randomly "measure" how they think teammates will do.

To be clear I think that most players will not really care, much the way many players are open to being on the same team as people from other ranks now. Though I think in some cases it will really encourage come close-minded behavior.

So all-in-all for me I wouldn't mind a slightly more polished version of the new borders but really hope the division markers get dumpstered.

It says test at the top and riot confirmed they are placeholders for later.

I don't mid the new ones but with that said i would prefer the ones from last season, and i could see why the markings on the side would cause problems for people so riot might want to fix that but who knows.

Only like 20% of LoL's players play Ranked anyway so noone will get to see them

why doesnt this make sense? i see a lot of people saying this but its just one thing for division one, five for division five
