Dark Star Jarvan Skin Spotlight - Pre-Release - League of Legends

This is a pre-released skin so it's still a WiP!

I love the Dark Star skin lines. The textures. The particle effects. The VO. They're all pretty solid skins (DS Thresh is the best one imo). When Riot announced Dark Star J4 I was pretty surprised. I mean I'm glad J4 is finally getting a skin after 4(?) years, his mains have been itching for one. Plus I'm glad Riot is starting to open up skin lines to more champs instead of cherry picking them.

Then i saw the splash art and i got really confused.

I'm not mad he has the skin. In fact i think it has some potential. Here's my opinion. The Dark Star line are supposed to be very extra terrestrial with tentacles, sharp teeth, claws, overall very alien. Take a look at all the DS skins and compare them to J4

Note: I like DS Ori but i also feel they could've made her more alienish e.g longer head tentacles or made her ball more like a black hole

J4 looks good. But he feels kinda....off. He resembles more of a super villain from a comic (Galactus or Thanos form Marvel) than a intergalactic entity that consumes stars and births black holes. He doesn't really have any of the characteristics of the other DS skins.

I think maybe a VU was more in order, them maybe they could have toyed with this idea...

Imo i would have changed his head to resemble more like Khazix and Varus and make whatever is coming out of his crown to look darker, like some anti-matter substance instead of fire. Q W E look fine the worst thing about this skin i see everyone complain about is his ult which i agree. I looks more like crystalline material which doesn't really go with a space theme. How i would change it is probably make it similar to a black hole even horizon, "An event horizon is a boundary in spacetime beyond which events cannot affect an outside observer. In layman's terms, it is defined as the shell of "points of no return", i.e., the points at which the gravitational pull becomes so great as to make escape impossible, even for light." which i think is perfect because the whole fantasy of his ult is to feel like there is no escape.

I think Dark Star J4 isn't a bad idea, i just feel like it missed the mark a little bit and i really hope Riot reads this and hopefully makes some changes! I know this was a long read so i appreciate it if you read through all of it! Let me know what you guys think![slayer-jinx-wink]

That is true but aesthetically they are still different. He doesn't look like he crawled out of the depths of space from another dimension. He just looks too humanoid.

DS Ori has tentacles on her head (I just wish they were longer and more pronounced but in game they do move and look creepy.) My point is J4 lacks so many elements they could have added to make him fit more. He doesnt even have the DS symbol etched on him like the rest of them do.

It's a good skin, just doesn't really feel like Dark Star, I see more "Galactic Prince Jarvan" instead.

Ds Ori doesn't have tentacles on her head,its more stylized hair that resembles the shape of tentacles(most notable ingame where it is rather stiff)

Also the dark stars don't all have the dark star symbol on them. Thresh has it on his head and while the heads of Kha'zix and Varus resemble Threshs icon,they are no the same. And Oriannas symbol is actually different from Threshs.

And in general I think that Riot wants to have more variety in the dark star theme. Covering all kinds of galactic abominations from inhuman ones like cthulhu,to the more human ones like Galactus.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It's a cool skin and I like it. And it's about time he got another skin. But....Dark Star? Really? I can name a lot of champions that would fit this concept MUCH better than J4.

Aatrox Hecarim Karthus Lissandra Xerath These would be pretty cool, and they'd fit the Dark Star theme well(I've been hoping for a good Lissandra skin as well)

Nocturne Syndra Soraka These may be a bit redundant since Reaper Soraka and the classic forms of the former two already give off a similar feel to Dark Star. Still, they don't have to be all fancy epic/legendary skins. Nothing wrong with having some cheap 750-950 RP skins here and there.

Chogath KogMaw RekSai Velkoz I guess any of the Void champs would be a great fit, but Cho'Gath would especially be perfect.

Again, this is a cool skin. But Jarvan honestly just doesn't really seem to fit this concept. I'm not going to be overly bitchy about it or protest until they shelf it or anything, and I'm sure some people are looking forward to it. But still...really missed some opportunities here.
