My biggest issue with ChampUp
I want to preface this post with saying I love most of the work that ChampUp has been doing with updating old champions to match the current art style of League and increase the poly count and model fidelity of champions that have fallen far behind in quality compared to newer champions.
That being said, a recent trend I've been noticing with the ChampUp team is replacing every single line a champion has and preserving none of the old script.
I don't see the purpose. Who is Riot pleasing by doing that? Often times older champions have an extremely small amount of voice lines (sometimes as few as 9), and fans get attached to iconic voice clips.
Riot was pretty good at keeping fan favorite jokes and lines like Yi's "Your skills are inferior." and even going as far as keeping Garrn's exact same sound file when he yells "DEMAICA!" It feels great to see all your favorite lines kept and updated along with the rest of the champion's kit and visuals. However, with newer ChampUp projects (maybe staring with Karthus?) many champions lose some of their most beloved lines but then gain a whopping 20 minutes of new jokes, taunts, movement and attack lines. I personally don't see the point of keeping exactly 0 lines from the script of older champions. It would cause little to no disruption for the team doing the new work and pleases the fans of the champion.
For some reason Yorick didn't get to keep the one line every summoner knew, Karthus no longer feels a chill. I completely understand when Riot keeps old lines but I don't get the purpose of preserving none. That pleases no one and I'm not sure what kind of agenda it serves. I say keep some of the spirit of the old champion, it really really won't take anything away from your script, I promise.
