There are rumors about Katarina and Garen having a secret love affair, is this true or false?

They are not romance relationship. They are just competitors and comrades but people like to fantasizing and twisting those relastionship into romance.

It has literally never been confirmed canon. In the old, no longer canon lore, there were people who suspected something might be going on, but even then it wasn't ever confirmed, just an in universe theory.

They aren't related on universe and there is no reason to suspect they have even met in the lore.

That won't stop people from reading hypothetical quote interactions (which are not by default canon) and pretending like it confirms their ship though.

There are many quotes in game that refer to their relationship, and since Riot has said that in game quotes are what would happen if the champions met in the lore, we can assume that they are in a relationship.

So I will add: it was confirmed in the old lore, with the Institute of War. However, in current lore it is not technically confirmed. This is due to the fact that Garen and Kat haven't actually met yet in the "current day" timeline of Runeterra (which is after Sylas's mage rebellion. See Demacia: Turmoil. )

That being said, due to numerous champion interactions connecting the two (which Bladesteel is correct about and Arakadia is not, that they are assumed canon), as well as the canceled/unfinished cinematic, it can be 99.95% confirmed that when the two eventually do meet, they will have a romantic relationship.

To preemptively address any arguments against this, it should be important to note that any other romantic relationships involving either Garen or Katarina have received no backing of any kind, and some in fact have even been expressly denied by Rioters.

Pease, can you link me the quotes that Riot confirmed they are romance set up? The old lore is nothing romantic.

Also, can you link me the quotes that Riot confirmed they will be romantic relationship? The in game quotes can be interpretated in other ways too.

But the lores and the champion quotes are not romance confirmation at all, they can be interpretated in many ways just like the lore itself! And the movie is nothing romantic either! When they meet, they could become comrades, competitive comrades can explain the quotes too.

And no, competitive comrades doesn't explain his sister singing a song to tease romantic couples, that Maokai has G(Garen) <3 K(Katarina) in his bark. Or Tahm sensing that they both desire one another. Or Illaoi telling them to follow their hearts and go to one another. Or Jhin explicitly referring to them as "Star Crossed Lovers" which is a direct reference to Romeo and Juliet. Or how the two in their bilgewater skins star as the main characters of a Romance novel in the Oddysey universe.

Or most recently why they'd be dancing according to Pantheon. (That's called interplay of sex and violence btw).

That's exactly what I said " they can be interpreted in many ways". The quote saying "I think I'm gonna kiss you..I mean smite you.. you know what? never mind" It basically means he does not want to kiss her and he sees her as his bro.

And his sister's quote saying " they sit in a tree? they better just be holding hands or I'm telling" That could mean that they are not romance relationship, because she said "I'm telling", that is a hint saying Garen is not with her.

Maokai saying " Stop carving words into my bark! everyone knows G hearts K", that basically means Garen does not like what people say about G and K!

Tahm's quotes do not mention any names: "you live by a code that'll never let you get what you want. Let me take you to her." it could be saying garen x any her

Pantheon saying " the fortunate find their partner" to them because they are competitors and they compete each other to find their partners.

Those lines can all be interpretated in different ways and you shippers just like to think one way.

You can't deny they are competitors because they are top warrior and assasin.
