I've been waiting for this for a long time. Good to see Riot hasnt left the demon pants bow user in the Dark(in).

EDIT: There's also stuff on the Universe page.

That was unexpected as hell.

Would never guess.

Anyway, that's really well written lore and cinematic. Good job Riot.

And it does not do old varus story justice at all. It feels to me like a cheap pandering.

Oh, wait.

We got a canonically gay character who got more to him than being a token on a checklist?

Blasphemous!

On a serious note. This does make Varus so much more nuanced than the old one since now there are way more possibilities for further storytelling with the various aspects that make up this new entity.

This is definitely a wild change for Varus, but to be honest I am kind of digging it! Though I guess Varus is a "they" now????? That's definitely a change.

And I like how the Varus story is so different from the Kayn story. Kayn battles against Rhaast through force of will, while Varus fights against the combined Power of Love (tm) of Val and Kai.

This is definitely a pretty dramatic switch for Varus but overall I'm pretty pleased with how this went down. Not that I was overly freaking out a week ago when we heard about this stuff, but I am a bit relieved that there is still a strong "tragedy" in his story, albeit in a completely different form.

I also wonder what Varus' future holds. Will it BE like Kayn and Rhaast? Will Varus know only vengeance? Could he possibly learn to coexist with them, perhaps his sharp anger dulled by their love? There's a lot of different places this can go and I'm kind of excited for the many possibilities.

Edit: AND I love the peak into at least one part of Ionia's culture with Valmar and Kai, as well as Valmar's village in the comic. Edit2: That was some good music video.

I am pro new Varus.

Honestly i got some crazy shivers watching this video. Everyone (me included) was scared when his short bio came out but now... It was so unexpected but also so nicely executed.

Also super good initiative on Riot's part to finally depict directly gay relationships on LoL.

And when you read the color story, Varus the Darkin feel almost sympathic (idk if its tied to the fact i loved old Varus, aha). But somehow, all he does is missing his peers. (we even got a hint of a female darkin). It felt so special to have the Darkin conversing so casually with the two hunters within him. Almost as if it was normal. Really show a strange side of those creatures.

Was expecting a bio update, but we got an amazing and nicely drawn comic, and a whole beautifully animated video.

Overall very pleased, and very impressed too. Please keep on surprising us, Riot !

Me too. I am a long time Varus main, and when I saw this I nearly had a panic attack. I really love that it tells a story about these two lovers who are both warriors and can't be without one another.

Holy shit I can feel the fandom is about to explode.

This isn't what I expected but it's their story and their choice. With Nami's lore, they mostly stayed true to her character/goal even if they made her Vastayan. This switch is rather vast.

The idea before is Varus (the man) had to make a choice over surviving his purpose protecting a temple from Noxans or protecting his family, he chose the temple and found his family slaughtered, in anger he took the 'corruption' which in this case was a Darkin for himself to get vengeance.

They could have easily spun that so that the corruption was an influence on his mind and the Darkin wanted vengeance on those who trapped him there and Varus on the Noxans.

Instead we get Darkin lore and origins and we make the man someone(s) else and Varus the Darkin. Missed opportunity to keep established lore which still worked while expanding on other areas.

I like it though. I'll watch the video and read the comics more later.

Holy shit, I was expecting the usual bio & short story, but a comic & music video too?? This is the 1st time I've ever seen give this amount of lore love to one older champ that's not part of some in-game update. There's no surprise event this is tied to, right? Please tell me this just "Varus lore love day".

Sorry, this Varus stuff is good, but I'm more excited about what this implies. This possibly means that we might see days dedicated to giving lore love to a specific champ rather than it being tied to an in-game update or an event. Thus somewhat decreasing the time waiting for more lore on X Champ. Ohmigod, this also means independent champs aren't being left out to dry lore-wise & can have their own solo Lore updates. Even going back & continuing champs stories can happen a bit more frequently.

Imagine if a champ I actually like got this amount of lore love *nosebleeds*. If Varus can get a day dedicated to him & he's not even being updated (in-game), the same can go for most other champs, riiight? Obviously, I don't expect them to have a bio update, short story, comic & a music video for every time they give lore love. I'm just happy champs could be able to see lore love at a slightly higher rate. Yes, only slightly because unfortunately, there's a realist in me putting a damper on my excitement. There's honestly no telling with Riot. Hell, I'm have doubts in what I think all of this implies. I could be wrong about this whole thing.

So, there is a female Darkin somewhere, potentially in Shurima.
