Hey look, they remembered that
exists in the lore.
Akali's mom kind of low key sucks. Like, I get that she has this other girl that is also like a daughter to her that she values, but has she not heard of having more than one kid? There are some people who have like 8 kids and are some of the most loving families.
So we get mommy issues Akali, where Faey is an emotional kid and lashes out at her and blames her, and Mayym is literally blind as soon as Akali does anything remotely protege-like. Faey was choking at making a decision (something she heavily criticized Shen for) and wouldn't have rescued as many as they did without Akali.
I kind of got frustrated more than anything, but I think that was kind of part of the point of the story? I'm sure it bothered some people less than me, but this touching moment at the end between Mayym and Faey was completely overshadowed by Akali getting emotionally neglected even though she did most of the work.
Maybe I'm just sensitive to sibling-like characters, since I'm so close to my sibling, but I would never blame a family member in that situation, so I personally found it hard to sympathize. Maybe its just me...
That was very good.
Finally some lore about
was dissapointed he wasn't in the Zed comic, glad we got something though.
I can't help but always read Kinky Order whenever they appear.
Not going to lie, I'm conflicted with the direction they took with Mayym. To me, it kinda just felt... Out of nowhere? There wasn't really indication in the lore that implied a rift between Akali and Mayym other than the whole "Akali disagrees with the Kinkou's philosophy of balance and inaction," so I guess seeing Mayym completely treat Akali so distantly really threw me off. I don't know, maybe this whole thing is personal and I'm just jarred from this new development and what I assumed was canon. Hopefully I'll get over it soon.
I do like the introduction of Faey though, and her relationship with Akali and Mayym. It seems like a pretty interesting set-up of Faey holding a grudge against Akali, and Mayym holding her in such high regard. I might be conflicted, but I'm also curious on what Riot's plans are, so I trust that they have a good reason to add it in and that they'll execute it well.
Also, FINALLY some Kennen lore. He deserves it.
I've a feeling the new short story ties in to Fiddle
...Wait, how old is Akali supposed to be? She's 9 in this story, and Shen is already the Eye of Twilight? Either she's younger than I thought in the game's present or Shen is older than I thought.
