Worldbuilding - Your Turn! Part III

Been months and I'm bored. Let's talk about random worldbuilding ideas! Past topics include geography/climate (this was pre-map but I got stuff right!), food, language, music and instruments, and marriage and partnership. Since I did all those posts, a new region was revealed (Ixtal), and we've received more details on some others, so feel free to toss me whatever, even if I already talked about it a while ago.

Not really an idea so much as something I'd love to see explored more, but I'd love to see all the different holidays that get celebrated in the different regions! I wanna see what each region values enough to celebrate and maybe even sometimes throw a party of some kind for y'know? I don't know why but I get this vibe that ancient Shurimans partied hard, not even necessarily tied to holidays, particularly the upper class of ancient Shurima. That's the kind of fun stuff I'd like to see more of!

I am still convinced that fried poros are a delicacy at the Frostguard ¯_(ツ)_/¯ #makeitcanon

The biggest reason why Sahn-Uzal rose to power was because his tribe found the iron deposits in the Ironspike Mountains, which allowed them to make weapons and armor superior to their rival nomadic tribes, who were still armed with hide and bone. It's why Mordekaiser associates himself with iron so much; it was the literal foundation of his empire.

Someone mentioned in another thread that Ionia seems to not have deities they look up to but in a land of magic, why would you look up to someone who is just magic like? They haven't done anything special. So I suggested that they look to Ancestors of great worth instead. Those that did great things for the people or land.

This also raises the question of other religions and how things are worthshipped. Mainly due to the simple reason, their gods/deities whatever are literal beings. Anivia literally flies around Freljord, Volibear has followers, Illoai basically uses her god as a tool to fight and The Aspect of Sun inhabits that of Leona.

Do they believe in even higher powers? World creators or a 'one above all' so to speak? And what of Shurima? Their gods aren't gods, just men given power, they were a civilisation long before Ascension became a thing so did they worthship gods?

(this the kind of thing you are looking for?)

Why Wukong and Ahri are related champs-

On Ahri's quest to find her tribe, she meets Wukong who's currently on his own while Yi handles his village cleansing thing. He agree's to escort her to some destination she's trying to reach, high-jinks happens, Wukong gains the ability to make clones in lore, Ahri finds her tribe and starts being taught about her history and such. Both them high five for getting character development and new lore, Wukong heads back to Master Yi to inform him his purpose for fighting is to keep people safe or something and Yi gets ready to test Wukong to see if he's ready to become a true Wuju Master (<---To be continued----)

Short, sweet, doesn't step on anyone's toes and the 8ish year old question of why they're listed as related champs get's answered, as well. Win/win for everyone involved.

Piltover/Zaun is one of the few regions of the world to get the full stack of seasons. Cold winters, hot summers, etc. It also means there is an absolutely absurd holiday business where inventors push the bill on making the most "in-season" creation just in time for any upcoming holiday. Unfortunately this also leads to holidays becoming more commercialized and with less "deep" meanings.

music of runeterra is really interesting, like the quiyana theme for ixtal. And I want also to know the different instument of runeterra. For example we know that piano is canon , but wher does it como from? Piltover(awaken)? The blessed isles(pianist spirit from the LoR cards)? I think we need more music in this world of war and blood*[sona-playing]*

In my head void monsters can appear out of nowhere, mostly at densely populated areas, roaming the night and knocking on the doors of fearful citizens. Humming, whispers and bone scraping on stone can be heard resonating with the misty night's air. The creatures disappear into nothingness just like they appeared... unless some reckless citizen dared to catch a glimpse, seduced by curiosity and imagination.

The monsters of the void know they were watched, feeling the gaze still burning on their shells. The reckless citizen, in the warmth of home, opens his curtains for one last quick look, but the void in all it's vileness stares back with brilliant pearly eyes, just a breath's distance from the window.

The screams would echo through the darkness, as a lesson for all nosy neighbors that curiosity...begets death.

I have no idea about actual void lore so I have no idea if my head canon could fit.

i liked that one post that was done where that guy tried to piece runeterra on a globe. I know it would be a longshot but i think it would be cool if riot would roll with that idea and start expanding the global map.bring in another rival continent to spice things up, try to wrestle control of the world crystals from each other etc etc.

So we have an Ice map the Freljord's Howling Abyss, the Summoners Rift is a Forest Map, and the Twisted Treeline is a Shadow Isles map, but what about rotating in some Map designs with all the other region themes and different gimmicks to go along with them, isn't there plenty to go off of just there?

My only concern would be the game modes, and if they would be fun or not. I think a simple 5v5 mode with all the champs and no crazy gimmicks that take away too much from your champ being the primary source of damage would be best.

How about an indoor Halls of Demacia map, or an out door desert Shurima map?

Not sure how many of these have been done, I recall the star guardian thing being different maps and being a coop mode which are both great ideas, I just had one complaint, and that was that it was limited to only start guardians.

Ixtal or Noxus would be interesting to see. The open plains with blue skies or the rough dark battle torn, blood stained noxus region.

Since Ionia doesn't have an actual currency that I know of, I had to completely make up a coin-based currency for it to make roleplaying easier.

This raises the question of if Ionia does in fact have a currency and, if it does, how widely it is used in the nation?

I believe the main form of "currency" is simply trading goods and services for other goods and services, probably out of respect for the Vastaya who may or may not conform to such a thing as using real money. It may also be because Ionian is an archipelago where each province has its own ruling council(I think), thus likely making establishing a single form of currency difficult.

I also established that Jhin speaks/reads Piltovan/Zaunite(same place so the language is likely the same or has very few differences), Demacian, some Shuriman, and possibly Noxian in the same roleplay, as he was interacting with a Piltovan scientist and was teaching him Ionian, among other things

This is of course ignoring the "global language" theory because, really, that's no fun at all.

I wouldn't doubt that Jhin knows multiple languages. He's likely very smart, though no genius, and likely took the time to study them(willingly or otherwise, fuck you cabal) in the months following his release from prison, prior to his journey to Zaun. Though, of course, I doubt he'd really be fluent in any language outside of Ionian(which itself is likely made up of different dialects, with him speaking the Zhyun dialect). He likely knows just enough to not be horribly confused, basically. Enough to interact with people, know how to get around, and blend in convincingly.

I think other people/champions may be able to speak multiple languages as well, or at least have translators to do so for them.

Other shit includes...

  • The stars have names according to the Targonians, at least some of them do, as Atreus is named after a star in Pantheon's constellation. But what about the sun and moon? Are they simply called the "sun" and "moon," or do they have names?

  • I'm curious about the continental plates situation for Runeterra, or if it even has them at all. Did it have a supercontinent like our Pangaea at some point in its history? Is seismic activity something that happens, as well as other natural phenomena, like hurricanes, tornadoes, ect?

  • Mass extinction events, natural or otherwise? How many times has the life on Runeterra been "reset," if it has been at all?

  • Is the rest of Runeterra even inhabited anymore? We know there is more, but as far as I know, there has been no indication about any influence from the places outside of the 1/6th of Runeterra that we know of besides the fact that there was a mass migration of people(Ixtali) from a continent in the east. However, we still have no idea if the rest of the world is still inhabited or if it is plagued by the same issues as this 1/6th of the world(mainly the Void and Black Mist).

  • Speaking of the other inhabitants of Runeterra, do they know what's going on in this small 1/6th of the world? There are multiple apocalyptic-scale threats present here after all, so you'd think someone elsewhere would know about that. The Darkin, the Void, the World Runes. Not to mention the multiple wars going on, the various godly figures that are just running around, the demons, the Shadow Isles/Black Mist, ect.
