Anyone else not play champions because of their back story or affiliation to a city state?

i refuse to play any champion from Demacia besides maybe (but riot gut her) and (she has no meaningful character) because i'm on noxus side! i also rule out the shadow isle champions besides and maybe (if riot stops gutting her every time she see play) i also dont play simply because i prefer as queen over her i refuse to play most ionians besides (ironically since he is similar to who i hate with a passion lost his home to noxian invasion) .i still play even though i don't like ashe like which is weird and any neutral champion is fair game for me.what champions do you play just because you love their back story or what champions wont you play because of their affiliations? also the reason i put this in story and art was to see if anyone else gets affected by the story of the champions as much as me

I don't buy Draven, and I rarely play Darius, because they're such creepy sadists when they're chasing Ahri and Leona in that one League cinematic. Not exactly what you're talking about, but sort of the similar.

Somewhat. Or rather, I'll play champions I don't really enthusiastically like the kit of if their backstory and aesthetics are interesting to me. Only reason I own Yorick.

Syndra is the closest example of a champion I wouldn't play because of their backstory. Her kit is mildly interesting to me, but the champion backstory strikes me basically like...Anakin Skywalker levels of terrible angsty stupid darkside baby tantrums.

I understand the whole Angst concept (NO ONE UNDERSTANS ME), but note that Syndra is supposedly the anti-thesis to Ionia. Syndra is about self-improvement and reaching your potential, but without regard for others around her. Karma, is also like this, self improvement and reaching your full potential, but with regards for others.

While Syndra's improvement comes naturally (From leveling), Karma's is much more controlled and contained (Enhanced abilities using R). Not to mention, one of Ionia's themes is "Balance", which is what makes people afraid of Syndra in the first place. They probably see life as a simple graph with a slope being a '1', so when Syndra comes in with a slope of '2', they see it as very bad. A lack of balance of Power/Age (X/Y Axises).

But yeah, Syndra is pretty much a teenager when it comes down to it all. They should make an event to expand upon her or something

I don't think champions lore ever turned me away from playing one but I often pick a champion up if their lore intrigues me. I do however refuse to play some champions solely because I don't like their visuals (they look boring).

JarvanIV or Janna for instance. Their appearance just seems bland to me. I think they would look vastly different if they were released today.

Hmm, somewhat. I'm not a fan of most Noxian characters or pretty much anything from the Kumungu Jungles. On the flipside, lore has strongly attracted me to some characters like Syndra and Lissandra .

Gameplay kit and viability is one thing, but story and personality are equally important to me. Absolute effectiveness only matters if you play LCS-level competition, really.

Nah, I feel like that would limit my champion pool too much. A lot of champions I own I definitely did not intend to own when I started playing and it's fun to grow and expand. I'm sure you're missing out on some fun champions by limiting who you choose to play. But, to each their own. I enjoy the lore, but I wouldn't let it dictate who I play. I play who I like. :3

Eh, kinda. When I play a champion a lot, I start to get more interested in their backstory and background. But their background doesn't keep me away from playing them. Their kits do that.

Honestly? Kits that need to be ahead to do something. I have exceptions ( Illaoi Gangplank Pantheon and ADC's when I need to play them) but I prefer kits that allow me to be useful even when behind. Naturally this leads me to tanks and supports (but I like tanks more, so I play tanks) where their kits offer abilities that are useful at any stage of the game no matter how far ahead or behind I am.

Even if I can't kill you as Sion or Nautilus , I can damn well keep you still so my team can.

Being behind on a champion that needs to be ahead is the worst feeling I have in this game (which is why I dislike the ADC role). I guess I just don't like offering only damage, which turns me away from most assassins.

Honestly I just don't like Supports because they aren't suppose to get kills. This makes sense obviously, but people get pissy if you get a kill or CS. My favorite roles are JG and Top, but I'll play support willingly if I can't get those.

Bot lane is hell though. It's another reason I don't like support.

bot lane is hell..thats why it even takes two players to go there....but you have to admit most support kits let the support be helpful at all stages of the game without having to be ahead and can still be decent when behind Braum Soraka Janna Thresh Blitzcrank

Yeah I know. But I like to be able to get kills. Not that supports can't get kills, they just aren't expected to get them.

Not really. A lore that I like is something that makes me want to play a certain champ,but a bad one doesn't necessarily turn me away,but simply doesn't add anything to it either.

And no...I mean sometimes I'll play themed champs with friends..so we have a smaller pool to pick from..but I just play w/e seems good for the team comp/sounds fun at the time, ignoring all affinity/nationality. Lucian adc/ Thresh support has great synergy. And KogMaw adc/ Kassadin mid makes for a really strong late game.

Love reading the lore...but fk following it for games. :p

Braum is Avarosan. He's a strong man, but is all about kindness and I'm pretty sure he'd rather not fight anyone if he could, he's not much into "Strength above all", I believe, or else he wouldn't have been the hero he is today. So I guess that Ashe and her diplomatic ways are the way to go. :P

i mean her judgment showed that she wasn't only doing what she was doing just because it seems like the right thing to do.shes also doing it because she has nowhere to go. from there you could develop her to be that she plans to join the enemy because of her bitterness of not having a proper childhood or you could have a point in her life where she is glad she was forced to serve demacia because without that push she would have never done it and she finally knows she truly wants to protect her home! of course i would prefer she joins the enemy Noxus!!!! but since thats not cannon her character is limited atm since we have no more elaboration on her character besides the lore thats out dated

There isn't a champ that I don't play because of their lore, but there's one I can't play because of the VO.

Veigar His voice makes me wanna strangle a baby. It matches everything about him and is well done, but for some reason sets my teeth on edge.

There's also one that I won't play because of their personality.

Hmm, now that I look at a lot of my most played. I basically play mainly Demacians with next to no one from Noxus and Zaun. (WW is from Zaun and Morg I technically don't count from Noxus)

I guess just not many of what Noxus has to offer really interests me. I am not big on extreme damage champs or assassins, so their main roster of Darius/Draven, Kata/Talon are gone. Which is a majority of the big ones.
